Hi all,
I’ve just recently bought my first motorbike (for the roads) - a CCM Maverick. I know it’s probably not everyone’s taste but I just love it.
Anyway, my plan is to go on a some fun adventure rides and see a bit of the country and enjoy some good routes and roads. So, does anyone have any ‘motorcycle rides to do be before you die’. After having a rotten 12 months losing both my parents I really want to escape a little bit and enjoy a bit of life so some fun rides and adventure is just what I need.
I’m based centrally in the east mids so I’m open to all suggestions and ideas.
The Bealach na ba- Applecross- is an absolute classic but it's bloody far from everywhere. Glencoe likewise is a good run just scenically but also has some sensational riding roads- the german road west of kinlochleven, the duke's pass at Callendar, and endless wiggly stuff on the west coast.
What's your effective range before your arse falls off?
Penrith, over Hartside pass to Hexham, Bellingham, Keilder, Newcastleton, Longtown, Brampton, Alston and back over Hartside. Might have a sore arse on a CCM after that, though.
Get 'Biker's Britain' by Simon Weir. Loads of great routes, all over the country. He also has one called 'Biker's Europe'. Well researched routes with loads of useful info, highly recommended.
Following with interest. Going to order my first bike when I can find 5 spare minutes to visit the dealer.
I can't wait to get out riding for similar reasons. I need something to look forward to.
Spa Francorchamps, Portimao, Jerez.
I’ve recently passed my test and bought a triumph tiger. Living in S Wales I’m out most sunny weekends around South & mid wales getting lost and avoiding all the busy roads, finding places I never would of by car. Brilliant fun, enjoy it.
Go to wales, base your self somewhere like Rhayader and you can have a week of great rides all over Wales.
Same for Yorkshire, I stayed near Settle for a week. Amazing roads, quieter and less police than Wales...
a CCM Maverick. I know it’s probably not everyone’s taste but I just love it.
Looks bloody ace! Always had an eye for CCMs.
Dougie Lampkin seems to be having a ball on it in the vids, but hew could probably make anything look fun!
Probably worth posting this as it might help people suggest the best roads for this bike, not just "a" bike
And foggy on another Maverick at goodwood - looking like a mentalist, as per!
The Marches and out into Wales for me or somewhere similar to this.
North Yorkshire has some great roads. Although I am slightly biased 😉
But you won't go far wrong heading up to Hawes and exploring the roads in that area.
Ribblehead, Buttertubs Pass, etc.
That video of Dougie is the ice cream run up to the pigeon loft at Rivi isn't it...
Hartside is a good shout, though the ride up there will make you cry on that bike. Hows about north lincolnshire, into humberside (the humber bridge is hilarious on a bike) head north through beverlye & go play in the moors? From east mids you can make it up to derbyshire pretty easily, though it is 50mph average speed camera central from recent experience.
Staffordshire is also within reach plenty of nice roads with surprisingly little traffic. Most of the ones that head NW from the 456 are amazing.
Consider gettinga phone mount & using something like myroutapp to plan some routes & navigate them. A decent GPS on any bike is great for being able to explore intelligently.
Re: the GPS idea I wholeheartedly agree. I ended up with a Beeline and it's absolutely spot on. I prefer the simplicity over the distraction of a phone. Route planning is surprisingly simple through the app and it works for MTB rides as well.
It's a CCM. About 200 yards from your van in my experience. I have had half a dozen CCMs and would have another. Once upon a time a member of the sales team told me that the wiring came from the same place as Land Rovers. HmmmNot that wasn't very reassuring. I have had plety of the latter as well.
Sorry, P taking over, it looks fun and undoubtedly will hang on for ever. Like most things, the best way is to look at a national map, find the area with the fewest roads and look for yellow ones that wiggle.

LOL funny... but... well, yeah 🙂
The Yorkshire Dales.
Some fantastic roads there that are perfect for your bike... quiet, rough surface, steep, scenic, etc. Plenty of green lanes too if you fancy that.
I also love riding in the Peak District, Lake District (avoid weekends), Northumbria, Wales, Borders, Northern Scotland... everywhere. And then there are so many countries just a short non-P&O ferry away... Fairly certain Weeksy used to take his big single abroad.
New motorbike day for me yesterday... I'll take some pics when the snow's gone!
The Snow Roads route round the Cairngorms - in reality, the bit from Pitlochry to Grantown. You can detour via Trinafour off the A9 though.
I found this site quite useful for a bit of inspiration

Not necessarily following a specific route but the colour coded routes give you an idea of areas to head for and some specific roads
Probably worth posting this as it might help people suggest the best roads for this bike, not just “a” bike
Thats the Ice Cream run at Rivvy and very impressive

Bloody hell, 10 large for a 55bhp thumper! You're bang on it's not to everyone's taste! 😂
Where in the East Midlands are you...? Was going to suggest some far afield rides for you, but on that thing you'd be travelling there with it in the back of a van unfortunately... Or you'd do one trip then sell it immediately and get something a bit more suited to going places! 🤭
This was my favourite route I did last year... https://www.adventurebikerider.com/discovering-yorkshire-dales/
Did it with golfchick from this forum and her fella. Underestimated just how tiring 200 miles of mostly singletrack roads would be! 😂 Bloody awesome route though... I was a little overbiked on my 1290 Superduke, but was fun all the same...

I also really enjoyed exploring round the Forest of Bowland on the way up to the Yorkshire Dales (I came down and stayed in Morecambe for the night, the road down from Quernmore to Lancaster was ace, but the whole of the Forest of Bowland is a time warp, barely any vehicles, fun singletrack roads all over the place... Go!
I love Wales, and luckily enough live just on the doorstep to get there... Lots of awesome routes, but my favourite is probably head to Builth Wells and then do the Devils Staircase to Tregaron, north to Devils Bridge and then into the Elan Valley and on to Rhayader. Superb fun! Lots of fun to be had in and around the Forest of Dean too, especially heading down to Chepstow, then inland to Abergavveny... Or head to north Wales, get off the main routes, find some epic back roads up in Snowdonia and have a blast!
I bet the 690 was fun on that route!
Just sold my immaculate 690 Duke R to a pal... he loves it!
Sorry, back on topic... that's a great Dales route.
I know it’s probably not everyone’s taste but I just love it.
Nah,it looks ok,and you like it so that's the main thing.
I am not a big fan of twin silencers mounted on one side though, and because I am also very old, when I see the letters CCM it means this .....

🙂
try the SW 300 in Galloway and the Northumberland NL250, loved them both when I did them.
and I was on a 55BHP twin. 😉

Little on bike video from Galloway
The Marches and out into Wales for me
I live in Ludlow, the Marches and mid Wales are my playground. It's a tough life!
The Snow Roads route round the Cairngorms
Had great fun doing that with Mrs Bloke last summer

How do you like that Tiger? and how does to do 2 up?
Thats my next purchase. 🙂
It's great, really pleased with it. Perfect two up, she loves the heated pillion seat. Electronic preload and damping adjustment is brilliant when carrying luggage and/or passenger. Quite light for a big adventure bike and really flickable and easy to ride. Power is more than adequate whilst not being intimidating. Only gripe for me is I have had issues with the quickshifter failing after wet rides as have quite a few other owners. I've had it replaced under warranty four times. To be fair Triumph have been very good about it and have made changes and improvements which finally (fingers crossed) seem to have resolved it. Oh, the turn by turn Nav which runs off a phone app is a bit basic and unreliable. Other than that it's ace, makes me smile every time I open the garage and every time I ride it.
From Cannock for me, lot of the roads I/we ride are great as you know. I love the Vale of Kerri for it’s view on my way back toward home. Always get out for 5-7 hours whenever I can.
Not sure i can help on roads and where to go but speaking as someone with a bike with no fairing, riding distance on roads to get places gets miserable pretty quick.
I love that CCM though.
Nurburgring, iconic circuit great ride out to it.
Bike looks great - Im near Oxford / Chipping Norton, so if you fancy a ride round the Cotswolds email me. Its full of twisty stuff with little traffic.
