The other forum I use a lot, www.therevcounter.com is being switched off, so instead of crying about it, I built this one instead.

Come join in if you fancy

LOL it's currently funded by donations and assuming that survives i can't see it changing. I'm pretty sure the forum will be completely funded in that way for several years.
If that's the case, there will be no adverts, ever.

In my plans there will also be no social media linking, no RSS feed, no podcasts etc etc.

Unless of course the members ask for it... but IMO people just want a forum to bounce questions about, not a social media platform.

I've just joined! Looking good and fresh, most of the other M/cycle forums i was on have gone a bit tired and stale. Good luck with it!

I'll echo that.... Absolutely... But i'm going to try and make sure that's not the case on this one. But it can of course only ever be as good as the content and the people who create the content. So it's on them as much as anything.

Welcome in guys, your first 2 posts require Admin approval to help with spambots, but after that it's post whatever you like, whenever you want.

Obviously at the moment the content isn't massive... but i'm hoping over time it becomes a decent resource of knowledge and enjoyment.

This all came up a bit unexpectedly, the guy announced the closure of our old comfy slipper forum on Friday, so i just thought "lets make a new one".

Rainpal was a bikchat forum thing I think. Some character developing a visor wiper system for helmets, crowd funding etc and after several years still hadn’t produced a working prototype. Huge two hundred page thread about it then it went legal and all mention of rainpal is now forbidden!

Motorcyles are having similar issues with Hilltop motorcycles and their tuning methods.

Great stuff.

It's feeling very much like 'home' to me there, i have to say, i really hope it goes from strength to strength. Got 157 users registered now which isn't at all bad for the first 5 days.

Hopefully this doesn't have any conflict of intererst for Mods as it's a completely different subject of forum being motorbikes..

But anyway... Moving on.

The forum is here and is doing fairly wel https://revtothelimit.co.uk/index.php

But how do i get some google/engine based traffic ? How do i get my forum higher up the search engines lists when someone browses for 'motorbike forum' ? I assume as always we have some pretty clued up nerds in here and whilst i'm an OK nerd, there's many things i know very little about, increasing my traffic is certainly one of them.

Can any IT bods explain to me in simple terms, why STW can't use the same forum style as that one?

The forums I use have a similar layout and functionality, proper notifications, active topics, etc.

So why can't this one be like that?

So why can’t this one be like that?

Because it's not just a forum. It's tied into lots of other things.

Comparing a hobbyist forum with < 200 members with a commercial offering like STW which gets 1.5 million unique visitors per month and has a dozen employees dependent on it for their salary is like comparing apples and, well, the Empire State Building. Believe me, I've had this conversation.

If you want to understand more, talk to Mark. He has an open invite if anyone wants to go visit them, though probably not in the next few weeks...

Thanks for the compliments guys.

FOr info, i'm not trying to be STW, i'm just trying to give a few people exiled from another forum a home.

But i'd still like more people from random places to join too.

It wouldn't shock me if this goes the same way mate, but i'm honestly hoping not. The closing forum we've had a massive 'community' like on STW, rideouts, trackdays, meetups etc. Same sort of thing. So i'd be gutted if we can't keep the same sort of thing going over on this new place.

Any ideas on stickers/decals for the new forum ? Was going to use the forum logo to potentially increase trafiic/exposure but any ideas on where to buy nice small custom vinyl graphics appreciated.

plenty of content, plenty of fun and plenty of space for new users with motorbikes

Out of interest, not many of you who joined back in the day have continued posting, why may i ask is that ?

For me it's because the bike has pretty much stayed in the garage since I bought it. A few runs here and there but a fraction of the amount I was hoping for, and with Scotland's various lockdowns & tiers it's just been more convenient to use the MTB. Consequently I've not really thought much about motorbikes.

Hopefully next year will be much more going on.

Hi
I’ve recently returned to it following some time away. Don’t really know why I stopped looking for a while but the poorer weather has found me browsing instead of riding so this may be why.

I think the site is good with some interesting stuff and I hope it continues-I’ve contributed to a couple of threads in the last couple of weeks but find for many I don’t have anything to add.

Cheers
Steve

I’ve just joined, theory test in 3 weeks, then a rush to get the practicals done before my CBT runs out in June.

Prepare for many noob questions of what bike for commuting hat requires no maintenance, costs nothing and won’t freak out my bike hating wife while not being a scooter.

Prawny, no questions are frowned upon. The only thing we don't do is politics and abuse.... Other than that, fill your boots.

Thanks for the input fatgit and Ox. The more feedback i get the better i can attempt to make the site/forum.

For the number of current members i think the content is pretty good, the turnover of threads is also really good. But of course, more members is better. 🙂

I joined a while back as I was rebirthing as a motorcyclist 😂 but then ended up with model and country specific headaches so joined forums based on those. The model specific forum only has a handful of posts per day, probably more active on FB but there’s nowt they don’t know about my bike. That said, in the nicest possible way it is the polar opposite of my leftie STW bubble when the B or C words come up 😉

Anyway I’ll be back @weeksy, I don’t use FB and much prefer the feel of a forum.

I signed up a while ago but don't think I've ever posted - I need to put that right 🙂

I don't tend to ride the bike much through winter so it's a bit "out of sight, out of mind".

Plus due to the situation, I've not really ridden the bike much this year. Fingers crossed that will change next year!

I have invested in a heated jacket and handlebar grips in order to address that, though 🙂

Lol damn right not today!!!

There's things like this over there

https://www.bikeexif.com/custom-bmw-r-ninet-lowered-motorcycle

I don't even know where to begin with this one. Maybe, sort of, awesome, horrid, amazing, tasteless, fabulous, I could use any and all of them.

One thing for sure is, it's amazing

Well my forum is a year old tomorrow. In that year i've had 60,000 posts on the forum, which i personally think is bloody marvellous and it's taken off way more than i ever hoped.

We've given away free gifts from mugs to a trackday, from Hoodies to a days training.

We've not banned anyone, although we've been close.. Apart from a few issues, it's been golden.

I think we've found a nice little niche in the corner of the www.

Well done. I was reading some of it the other day and it inspired me to get my KTM 990 serviced, MOT'd and taxed. Pick it up tomorrow with a set of giant knobblies fitted.

Now I'm spending the afternoon looking at OS maps and plotting my new commute which will take in a much off-road as possible.

Cant wait.
