Just about to get my 22yo Guzzi back on the road after a few years break & wondered who the go to breakdown recovery companies were these days 🤔

You are likely already covered by your car breakdown cover - they all factor out to local bike shops if out of range of specialist units if its full recovery needed .

I've got a company car so bike def not covered, just need recovery to home mainly as it's a rare bike & parts are pretty hard to get hold of if anything goes wrong recovery to nearest bike shop would most likely be a waste of time.

My RAC cover is for my in any vehicle so that covers the bikes.
However - when modern bike reg/rec problem, they had no idea. Breakdown truck to take me home didn't know how to strap bike on so asked me to do it!

Classic bike broke down - RAC guy loved it, it was an electrical gremlin, he spent ages working it out. But did say that they get no training with bikes. He just happened to be into stuff.

So yes i'm covered but service isn't necessarily as good as car. Probably to be expected given they won't see that many bikes.

Mine was tagged onto my insurance for very little extra.
Only time I ever used it was for a slashed tyre. One of the local independent car garages turned up with a trailer to take me wherever I wanted.

Unlike cars, I imagine most bike call outs are recoveries rather than roadside fixes. Only thing I’d check with an old Guzzi is that they’ll cover multiple call outs for the same faults.

Oi cheeky 😬 Its not so much the same faults as lots of different ones, so far touch wood I've only had to be recovered after the oil cooler hose blew off and spewed oil everywhere.

I use Start Rescue - the 2 star cover is enough for me and it's £28 - although I've just renewed and they dropped it to £20!

I've been insured through Carole Nash for ages and recovery/breakdown has always been part of the cover. Whenever I've had to use it, which I think is only a couple of times they've come with a proper van for the bike.

Surely a Guzzi won't get further than pushing distance from home before it breaks down?

Well it has taken me to the Millau Bridge and back, but admittedly immediately broke down when I got home.

Startrescue looks good - thanks 👍

See if its included on your insurance, the old insurance policy I had on my classic didn't have it and trying to find cover for anything older than 1995 was a pita. RH specialist insurance covered my bike, full European breakdown plus a few other bits and bobs for £85

I had RAC cover, recovered me once on a bike. Thankfully it was a biker RAC guy that picked me up so knew what to do, he'd also volunteered for the pilot of the folding motorcycle trailer that's stored inside the van.

But RAC car recovery on NYE was woeful, really poor service and many hours spent on the phone - not planning to renew with them. Bike is currently off the road anyway, will keep an eye on this thread

I used to have RAC bike cover, but they often sent a flat bed truck with no bike carrier, so he'd then call for one with a bike cradle and I'd have to wait another 2 hours!
