[Closed] Motorbike Brake Reservoirs

Have treated the KTM to a shiny new anodized reservoir cap as the old one was corroding. Under the cap is a flexible rubber bladder that presumably sits on the surface of the brake fluid to stop jiggled air getting into the system, just like on a MTB brake. Only there's noting in the manual to state that you have to get the air out from under it before re-fitting the cap. Should I treat it exactly like my hopes & extract all the air?

you don't mate, it's only to stop leaks, not to seal the system.

You need to worry about air under the cap with mtbs because they get turned upside down. So don't worry about motorbikes, unless you plan to turn it upside down too 😉

It's not an issue.
As long as the little hole in the bottom doesn't see air you're all right.

Thanks all. Far quicker response on here than the KTM forum.

I rolled the bladder onto mine to ensure there was no air trapped under it from habit having had Hopes before not caused any problems.
Out of curiosity what have you got 990 or 950 (noticed the same question on UK KTM forum)?

I have the 990sm. Great bike even though I've had few problems since buying it last year mainly down to the dealer but also the sodding water seal going after a few hundred miles after servicing it. I'm confident now that I have it running 100%, remapped it with a Motohooligan Airbox and full titanium Akro's. I've found it a nice and easy bike to work on with the smallest of parts available at reasonable cost and plenty of support online.

I've had mine from new since September 2007. Done 28000 on it through Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, Andorra, Switzerland and Ireland.

Suffered from the waterpump seal issue about three years ago. All good for the moment. I modified the fuel pump with a contactless kit from some guy in holland. The clutch slave cylinder has also been thrown in the bin in lieu of an oberon. The original is a total joke of a design & made me never want to buy anything made by Magura ever again. It came with the akra cans as part of an end of model year deal. I don't tour with the baffles out as I quite like my riding buddy.

Looking all shiny with new stickers & rear plastics:

I have the Oberon clutch slave too was fitted to it when I bought it so can't comment on the original one. My baffles are out at the moment but will be going back in. Between the exhausts and the Airbox it gives me a headache but it sounds fantastic.
I've no intention of touring on this bike, it is purely a toy that brings out the worse in me.

I might still have the KTM hand guards if you need them as I have the Acerbis fitted.
