Crutchlow reminds me of Gardner. Prepared to stuff a bike where it shouldn't go and take the consequences.

That last pass was a perfect example. Classic. 🙂

Rossi was magnificent, calculating. Bided his time then put the pressure on Marquez at the right time. Although Marquez fell he showed why he is so good - he's not prepared to settle for second best, although he'll be regretting that now.

In Moto3 it's impressive to watch Kent establish such long leads. I don't remember seeing such gaps for a long time. He's one for the future.

Crutchlow needs to park the 'hard done by' nonsense - he's coming off as a bit of a tool.

Weeksy - I'm by no means a Rossi fan, but to answer your specific point, but he has had to adapt his riding style and attitude to the new bikes and youger riders coming through, so it could be argued its not exactly the same.

Yes a good piece but slightly flawed by not even mentioning Agostini who was around Rossi's current age at his last GP and won a whole heap of World Champioships in different classes.

Marquez injured after an MX bike crash, surgery on hand just before Jerez which is a hard working circuit (although at their level they're all hard of course )

Different time, different circumstances, this was back when you could win 2-3 championships in a season if you were like Ago.

True and you could probably drink champagne BETWEEN races rather than just after them!

Agree with matt24k that Ago was worth a mention but it was still pretty interesting that most of them were burned up well before 36. I think Rossi's ability to not crash has helped his longevity and also his collection of titles.

It will be interesting to see how Marquez responds to being under some real pressure with those recent setbacks.

I thought at the end of last season he was showing some vulnerabilities. It's a question of can Rossi put a wee wedge in there and keep him worried? (I reckon he will handle it)

This is going to be a very interesting season... 🙂

The point could come where no matter what Marquez does he can't finish ahead of Rossi.

Lets say hypothetically he gets a 4th this weekend (due to injury) and Rossi wins.... Rossi is already 30 points ahead.... which would make it 45 or so...

If Rossi can keep picking up 2nd/3rd even when Marquez is winning, then that's a tough gap for Marquez to close.

On a sadder note I hope James Puttrell and Jordy de Jonge are going to be ok following a nasty looking crash in the BSB Supersport 600 race. Was a bit too similar to the Marco Simoncelli crash for my liking

+1

Never good when they don't replay the crash.

Danny Kent - there's a potential MotoGP champ. A thinking man with speed.

Crutchlow - another good result. I'm warming to him, I like his attitude. He knew he wouldn't catch Rossi and he had a buffer on behind so he thought he'd play with his settings to see what happened. That's knowledge that will pay off - it's one thing in practise, but to be able to do it during a race is another thing. He's doing all the right things if Honda need a Number 2 if Danni doesn't hold up.

Marquez as usual. 🙂

Rossi - thought he might have made it, but he's obviously already thinking of the season rather than risking an off for a few points. The master.

Good to see Lorenzo back on form.

Any word on Ono the LeoPard rider? - that looked serious. The other rider behaved like an arsehole considering the bloke he was blaming looked unconscious, and he didn't make a move to help him.

Could be due to asymmetric tyres too, so more grip/lean on one side than the other.

Crutchlow looking really really good on 3rd from pole.

Did it on a hard tyre too, so he may be even better in the race. Qualified ahead of Pedrosa and Marquez!

Going to have to watch this one.

Danny Kent looking good on pole in Moto3 too.

Probably.

I'm hoping for a podium from Crutchlow - if he can keep the rubber side down, that is. 🙂

But don't discount the wily old fox in no 8 position.

Can't help feeling there may be some pressure on Pedrosa to beat Crutchlow....

Brilliant riding from Kent. I thought he was toast when he was back in 10th. But sliced through the group to take out 2nd in last lap and increase his lead in the world Champs.

Now to watch the "boring" (by comparison) Moto2 🙂

Lorenzo just did it so neatly for the win.

Marquez did a great job of zipping through the pack, shame he couldn't stay on the bike. Did he cook his tyres?

Crutchlow? If only he could stay on the bike.

Rossi with a neat 3rd from 8th on the grid. Thought Pedrosa might just take it back.

Smith classy as usual with 5th. He's got to be in line for a factory bike.

Funny how livio suppo seemed very happy with Cal pre race considering he's a chump.

Rossi's big save was straight out of a typical race in the days of the evil 500s.

Crutchlow needs to learn that you have to cross the finishing line on the bike. It's why I think Smith is the better rider - cooler head - although Crutchlow seems to shine brighter. But with every crash he is learning a bit more about the bike, so it's not a waste of time.

Or the Honda has issues?? MM also crashed from the front tucking and not for the first time this weekend!
If MM has issues and Pedrosa has commented, why would Cal be unaffected?
Cal has had some success, and on the Yam had a good season so its reasonable to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I thought crazy joe was on top form .. he's stopped crashing on race day and had marvellous reactions at the start.. light years ahead of everyone else. On top of his injuries he can muscle the gp15 up the grid..
I enjoyed Rossi's charge up from 8th .. all in all a decent race from 2nd down 🙂

Yup, because Lorenzo did what Lorenzo does. Just need Rossi a bit further up the grid or Marquez to get his head round the Honda and the season will get interesting again...

No doubt that there's a problem. That's what practise is for, to discover the problems and learn where the edge is, and when it's likely to bite.

Cal is a real red mist racer (like Gardner) and great to watch. He doesn't let little things like physics get in the way. Sometimes it works, but when it doesn't he's off the bike. He gets better every race though, so by the end of the season, he'll be master of that bike.

Smith seems more calculating, and knows that you don't get points until you cross the line. He doesn't risk his points for a place so seems less spectacular.

Won't happen though, Suzuki have the softer compound rear tyre which they are using well for qualifying, can't see them holding any sort of race pace to match JL or MM

Neither man was going to yield, to be honest I expected them both to go down on the last lap such is the desire to win from both riders!

According to the rules if you gain a place running off track you get penalised, Rossi entered the corner in first place, the incident occurred and he ran off track, he rejoined in first....no case to answer IMO.

I'm sure Marquez will give it back later this season, he's known for his hard moved himself, he just came up against the wrong bloke today....Rossi never blinks in a game of chicken, Marquez would do well to remember that.

From the camera angle at the time it really looked like maquez was ahead. I winced half expecting rossi to drop it. I couldnt believe he powered through the trap to the finish line. It shows the hunger hes got for this years title.

Fair result in the end and neither really lost out so all in all a fitting result. Jorge did well , not sure what happened to Dovi recently.

If it had been anyone else other than Rossi that MM tried that with he'd likely have got away with it (lets face it, he's done so plenty in the past!) but he's finally up against someone who is his equal, and it's clearly riling Marc.

Serious tension in this house watching it yesterday, we just knew something was going to kick off. From the camera angles as the incident unfolded you saw Rossi disappear into the gravel but it took a couple of seconds before the shot changed and you saw him still on the bike, the longest couple of seconds of my life 😆

That Moto3 race was a cracker once again 😯
The last chicane at Assen is the daftest corner in motorcycle racing.God knows how many last lap 'incidents' have happened there over the years.
I just saw a short clip of 'The Doctor' at Goodwood today,I think he was on a M1 in King Kenny's colours,he rode it into the house!

Marc is danger to other riders, Rossi is aggressive but he has almost always been clinical - with Marc you can visibly see the red mist descending in the way he rides.

He will end up either killing himself or someone else.

120+ GPs since 2008 and he hasn't done either yet, he seems to be doing ok to me. He HAD to have a go at the last chicane, and if the positions had been reversed, Vale would have done the same. I suspect the only difference is, if it had been Vale making the move, Marc wouldn't have made it over the line first... 🙂

Fantastic race (my brother went, jealous.com), absolute hats off to the both of them - thought Rossi had it in the bag when he had that slim half second on the last lap, how Marquez made that up I've no idea! 🙂 Tough move, but he made contact whilst still second wheel, don't see an issue with Rossi taking the win after being bumped across the inside of the corner.

Great race at long last. Probably the first one of the season that I've watched from beginning to end. Moto3 is still the best racing though - those riders are bonkers and make MM look tame in comparison.

I've watched that MM/Rossi incident a few times.

Rossi gave his bike a handful right after the nudge so his front wheel was up when he hit the gravel.

Either that was phenomenal reactions (quite possible) or the old fox had it planned. 🙂

But Ajo crossing the line on his knees a few corners after he should have crashed raises the awesome stakes a bit.

As per the Moto GP itself was mundane compared to support races, Moto3 was amazing again!!! Gutted Mr Kent didn't use his head a bit more.

GP was the usual JL99 clear off and manage gap, shame for MM93 falling as we needed someone to fight Jorge but couldn't fault Dani's effot in stopping Vale. Not seen moves like that from Pedro in years!!!
