Is this still the 'to go' cheap but good android phone? Looking at the 2gb version as reviews suggest makes it much faster.

Currently using a older moto G from 2014 which has been great in sense of not slowing down and becoming unusable like other andriods which ive used and supposedly are loaded full of unnecessary software.

I've had one for a couple of weeks now. Ordered direct from the Moto g website for £150 including some personolisation. I'm not really that 4rsed about having the best/nicest phone available, but this seems pretty good kit to me. It's way, way faster than the samsung it's replaced, latest version of android and like you say, it doesn't come loaded with unnecessary cr4p. It does what I need it to perfectly well. And it's a nice size/weight/looks decent. Ordered on a Sunday night, arrived Thursday

I like the Moto G my Mrs has the 2nd gen one, but the only poor thing on it is the camera. I heard they have upped the camera on the new one, so that's good.

I just wish you could expand the storage via micro SD 🙁

Can't speak about the base version as I've got a 2Gb Moto G3

It's good, does everything well, runs fast, has the latest version of android, the camera is very good, and its splash proof/waterproof.

Yep, accepts SD card and apparently the camera is upgraded. Seems OK, but my previous phone was basically a camera with a phone stuck into it so it isn't as good as that.

Yep, fantastic phone, ace camera. Micro SD card slot. Not laggy in the slightest even with multiple apps open. Love it. I got mine for about £160 from Amazon and I can't see past it. I'm on a SIM only package with 3 so if I break it ill get another.

All our work phones are Moto's now.
I have work and personal 3rd gen's. As others have said, ace phone that just works, runs without any lag, now expandable internal memory via SD, nice to have waterproofing and seems to just do everything we ask of it.

I have found the expanding internal memory does not work with all apps - Play Music most noticeably - and so mine is still in 'separate SD card' mode. Some simple shuffling of apps means even my smaller memory work one does not struggle.

Very happy with mine, bonkers that some people pay 2,3x the price for phones that are no better!

The camera isn't the greatest, particularly in low light, but it's good enough.

Get the 16gb version, which also comes with 2gb of ram, compared to 1gb in the 8gb version.

I do find the screen to be too sensitive at times, and the launcher has some frustrating characteristics, so I now run Nova.

Having said that: despite the shortcomings, it is still an excellent phone and I would recommend one.
