Googling seems to say no. Nothing on the DVLA/ Government sites says you do.
MOT booked for tomorrow. Tore the house apart last night but can't find the V5. Kwik Fit site says I need to bring it with me.
So do you need to bring your V5 when getting an MOT?
Don't think so, I never have.
Had my MOT down at main Ford garage last week.
No V5
Take the old MOT certificate if you have, and they will give you 12 months from expiry of old one.
i never have, doesn't stop kwik fit making it their policy though
MOT's are all electronic these days, I just turn up with the motor. I take the previous years MOT cert if there's date overlap so that the new one only starts when the old one expires. Never taken my V5.
Cool. Cheers.
Not sure about legal but I've been asked for mine for motorbike MOTs. They double check their records against the V5 to check for mistakes (or ringers I guess).
One one of my bikes the chassis number and V5 didn't match! I was told it happens all the time. On mine you could see that a model number had been stuck in with the frame number, or missed out (can't remember now). It was obviously a cock up. Sure enough, getting the 'correct' V5 wasn't a problem.
This will probably be because they are lazy and wont/can't be bothered to look for the chassis number on the car so will just use the one on the V5 for typing the info into the PC.
Take the old MOT certificate with you (if you have one, may be coming up to first MOT?) all the info they need is on there.
As allthepies ^^^^ says they can date the new MOT from the expiry of the old one. You can get your new MOT done up to 1 month in advance.
