Wifey has just informed me that her MOT expiry date is 10th December....

I can't get an MOT until the 11th and I can't seem to find out when exactly her MOT expires; is it midnight tonight or midnight tomorrow?

It expires at 11:59 pm on the tenth.

If you have a pre booked MOT test on the 11th then you can drive to the car straight to the test.

This. It is legal to drive an un-MOTed vehicle to a test centre for the purposes of having it tested.

Could be worse. I bought a car in March, the dealer said it was MOTed until January. Checked last week, ran out in September...

I didn't even realise wife needing a MOT was a thing? Still, mine would be classed as historic which is probably a good thing because she'd likely fail the emission test...

My wife was driving round for a couple of weeks without realising ! It was my fault apparently.

It also doesn't specify a distance to a mot so if you need to go 200 miles on the 11th just book it in at your destination and hope it passes.

Checked mine in August thinking it was due in September only to find it expired in March. I consider myself very lucky as somebody else I know was pulled by the police and received £100 fine.

"It also doesn’t specify a distance to a mot so if you need to go 200 miles on the 11th just book it in at your destination and hope it passes."

While you may feel warm and fuzzy and plenty people on the internet say they got away with it.

A mate of mine did it and got tugged.

Only got a few hundred quid of a fine.

Was cheaper than a tow truck.

Not that I condone it as he is a daft gype.

MOT is booked locally for the 11th, I just wanted to know if I needed to drive the wife to work tomorrow. She's already arranged a lift for Tuesday.

Have a look on the .gov MOT site, has all the details on there.

Then log it in your phone calendar 🤔🕺

If it expires on, rather than before, the 10th, it may be driven. The only journey it can complete on the 11th is to the MOT testing centre, provided it is pre-booked (they have the Reg No.noted and are expecting it, not just "bring it in"). If it fails, it may be driven to a place of repair but only if any defect isn't immediately dangerous.
