Little bro has just given me his old phone (Motorola Moto Gen 3) which is so much better in almost every respect to my current dinosaur of a phone! However, it is still locked to Tescos Mobile. I would like to use it with another provider so want to get it unlocked without too much hassle. Years ago I remember doing one myself by downloading a crack, risking all sorts of malware, getting 3 seconds to type in a 15 digit code while standing on one leg and finally singing God Save the Queen. It worked OK, but was a pretty stressful experience. I think that things have moved on since then. Is there an easy/official way to obtain an umlock code for this phone other than paying 30 Euros to some dodgy eastern european website?
Cheers
Get him to ring the original provider and ask them to unlock it. Tesco will do it for free (or £10 if it's PAYG and less than a year old).
There's rarely a reason to have to hack them these days.
I thought Tesco supplied them unlocked? I know both of the handsets I've had through them were, the same 3rd gen Moto G and the later G4. I swapped foreign SIMs into them when travelling with no bother.

It varies with Tesco, they're usually locked but not always.
Tesco network uses O2 which is Giff Gaff compatible so you might not need to.....
Cheers guys. I tried another card and it asked for a code so definitely locked to Tescos./ I have now read up about it a bit based on your recommendations and will try and get bro to have it unlocked (or I will pretend to be him if possible). Will see how it goes.
