A sister topic for the "Most overrated band" thread..
Who is the most overrated actor in history?
I'll start the ball rolling: Robert De Niro.
And don't get me started on Ewan McGregor...
That should read "most over *rated* actor in history 😳
over actor?
william shatner
overrated actor... hmm, harder to judge.
You have time to edit the title, wheeliejim!
My list:
Al "Short Shouter" Pacino
Bad Bob "They like it if I say everything twice, everything twice" De Niro
George "I'm so Pretty" Clooney - who's only really any good in Oh Brother...
George "I'm so Pretty" Clooney - who's only really any good in Oh Brother...
and Three Kings
Over rated - Ricky Gervais if he counts.
Over acting - Brian Blessed for sure, but brilliantly!
Oh yeah, and Three Kings.
😳
😳 and well you might
Just don't get all Intolerable Cruelty on me, BBSB... 👿
Rennne Zellewiggythingy from Bridget Jones
George "I'm so Pretty" Clooney - who's only really any good in Oh Brother...
Out Of Sight?
Good Night And Good Luck?
The Good German?
Up In The Air?
You're right, he's rubbish
Al Pacino all the way..
overactor - peter O'Toole
overrated actor - Denzel Washington.... no John wayne.... or maybe Marlon Brando
I see your Intolerable Cruelty and raise you an Ocean's Twelve
Dammit, the Ocean's Twelve gambit! 😳 A bit early in the game I'd have thought (surely the first step is One Fine Day), but effective nevertheless.
* doffs hat *
Overrated? Keanu.
Marlon Brando? Overrated?? I would love to hear who you think is any good..
+1 Keanu..cant act for toffee..I would add Ben Affleck in to that as well..probably Matt Damon too..
Over rated - Ricky Gervais if he counts
+1
Did someone mention Mr Shatner?
\o/
-1 for Keanu
He's in Point Break, which, in my book, makes him a legend.
But I'm happy to see Ben Affleck and Matt Damon added to the list of shame.
Keanu Reeves isn't over-rated as an actor, he is not rated at all.
Nobody thinks he is any good.
Al "Short Shouter" Pacino
Al Pacino's early stuff was brilliant though - compare his performance in the Godfather with the lazy, shouty stuff he does these days. It's a shame.
Biggest over actor, as per title of thread - Nic Cage, hands down. Look up Nic Cage losing his shit on YouTube for conclusive proof. Awesome.
Most overrated actor? I'd say that big obnoxious Australian that was in Gladiator.
Worst Over-actors (as opposed to over-rated actor)
Roddy McDowell
Bill Bixby
Kevin Spacey
John Malkovich
Nicolas Cage
Al Pacino (later films)
What about those American 'comedies' like Friends and others? The actors in those could be accused of overacting and being vastly over rated. In the case of that Jennifer aniston creature, being over rated on looks, too.
Nic Cage to both questions.
Handy synopsis of his career...
http://www.cracked.com/blog/lets-play-nicolas-cage/
Jennifer "freeeekin" Annison
surely Cage plays on it though? he's playing larger than life wierdo hammy characters and his roles have evolved in such a way.
weird how I agree with most of the above mentioned actors (except Gervais who's God), yet I still find all of them watchable!
Tom Hanks for me, totally over rated, but still find him bearable.
oh, and Halle Berry, an oscar, really?!
Denzel - something about him just makes me want to punch him in the face.
controvertial one - you gotta love him, but is big Jack not an overactor?
Sandra Bullock
I find Ben Stiller hugely annoying..
Can I add him too..?
Tom Hanks for me, totally over rated
Ooh, yeah totally agree. Except the bearable part!
I find Ben Stiller hugely annoying..Can I add him too..?
No, because the nut sack scene in Something About Mary is cinematic genius.
However, you may indeed add Adam Sandler! arrrgh!!!!
I will add Heath Ledger, propelled into the category of "best actor of his generation" not because of his work, but because of his death.
So Bens not in because of 1 scene..
Well then...
I'm annoyed.
"stomp"

nonsense. he was destined for great things.
his performances across the board were great and his characters were all completely individual. Joker and gay cowboy in particular.
Played a good(?) junky in that Brit Flick too.

I actually find him very likeable but realise that many disagree. You have to admit it was a great scene! 😀
Oh, and he was great in Along came Polly - top underated movie that you can 'watch with a chic and actually both enjoy'.
No, because the nut sack scene in Something About Mary is cinematic genius.
ahem - the "loaded gun"/hairgel sequence?
^ just as much about Cameron, but a great scene none the less.
FRANK AND BEANS!
Jim Carey
Enough said!
small abrasion trail centre "call an ambulance" riders
Jim CareyEnough said!
Isnt he suppossed to over act?
He does a fairly good job in the few sensible roles he's taken on.

Destined! maybe, but died before he achieved them so being destined doesn't count. Not seen brokeback, but his joker was a mess and only a claimed because of his death. He has been in films I have enjoyed, but nothing special about his performances, his parts could have been played by many actors to the same standard.

watch brokeback then, IWGAFATS its an amazing performance.
Joker was a great take, eratic and unpredictable, totally insane yet somehow likeable.
He had produced numerous excellent performances in a short space of time, hence his destiny was to become a great..
Just my opinion.
Jim Carey.. erm... you need pointing towards these two movies, genius.
Lemony Snickets Series of Unfortunate Events
And
The Grinch
OK kids here's some FATCs by way of a few examples, I'll have forgotten plenty:
Carey - amazing straight actor, irritating in comedy to me but I am big enough to admit he's done OK. Just like Williams
Clooney - great in lots of films, directed well also.
Pacino - good but overrated IMO.
Brendan Gleeson - see the Guard and In Bruges.
Alec Guiness - Bridge over River Kwai.
Peter O'Toole - Lawrence of Arabia.
Tom Somebody - In The Bedroom
Nicholson - The Pledge
De Niro - KING - just watch Raging Bull. If you don't understand, then watch it again.
Forest Whitaker. Rubbish.
George "I'm so Pretty" Clooney - who's only really any good in Oh Brother...
And Michael Clayton? Great film.
John Hannah is a shockingly rubbish actor IMO, but as far as I know nobody thinks he's good either, so can't be considered overrated. (Same as Reeves, Carey, Clooney etc).
Owen Wilson and that bloke in Avatar and clash of the titans. Both terrible actors.
I also think Al Pacino is very over-rated.
The actor most overated by the industry is Will Ferrell, as a ratio of dollars paid in fees to dollars taken at the box office he gives the worst return
that bloke in Avatar
I couldnt agree more
The actor most overated by the industry is Will Ferrell
I couldnt agree less.
Id give a kidney to hit the boulevard with Ferrell for a night, he makes me larrf so hard.
And here's a few comments from reviewers of his latest (serious) movie, Everything Must Go:
''Will Ferrell delivers a performance of implosive intensity that rings true in every detail.''
''If he isn't careful, Will Ferrell is going to become a bona fide actor.''
''Ferrell is far more impressive in a straighter role ... as he controls his own brand of zaniness and channels it as bittersweet irony and humour into ordinary events.''
''anchored by a fine performance from Ferrell in a role that required a surfeit of subtleties.''
''Ferrell steps more fully and confidently into dramatic terrain''
Id give a kidney
I think they producers would prefer your money 🙂
it would make good cinema though eh?
George "I'm so Pretty" Clooney - who's only really any good in Oh Brother...
I came here to add Michael Clayton, but I've been beaten to it.
Hugh Grant
Owen Wilson..erm... you need pointing towards these two films..
The Dargeling Limited
And
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Ignore that sodding film with him the dog and that plank Jennifer Arriston
Daniel Craig.
