I am looking at a family getaway to Morzine or Chamonix over new year but cant decide which would be the better with 2 youngsters. Not really too interested in the skiing just want to enjoy the surroundings. Any recommendations on either and accommodation would be welcomed
Chamonix is bigger with more to do if not skiing. Better sights probably too.
think Chamonix with the surroundings would be where i would take them
Can you recommend any hotels ?
Sorry, always stayed in apartments.
Odd place to go if you are not into skiing. Both are all about the skiing and have massively inflated prices that time of year. As above Chamonix is the bigger town so has a few more creature comforts and a Macdonalds. Morzine is prettier and more chocolate box like. Both would be nice. Avoriaz (near Morzine) has the best swimming pool
Or maybe Verbier?
Morzine is a very pretty little town. If any of your party were to go skiing, be aware it's at a fairly low altitude, so if there's poor snow, you'd need to trek up to Avoriaz. There's a reason I know this...
If you're not going to ski have a look at Megeve for a prettier town with better restaurants that's roughly the same distance from Geneva
Verbier at New Year is rammed, I cannot see that being much fun with kids.
If you want Alpine charm find a smaller Austrian resort
