We ate meant to be going to Morzine in 3 weeks. I have booked the tunnel and an overnight stay each way in a travelodge. 5 of us go, 3 in the van with all the bikes and camping kit, 2 fly to Geneva. Today the budget airline have cancelled the flights to Geneva.
I know France is having some local lockdown problems, and im now conflicted with what to do.
Am i being irresponsible going? Will i be likely to have a proper mtb and road riding holiday? The two flying ar3 searching other routes but it has feel of all unravelling and it may be better to stay at home and do other stuff?
What would STW do?
Ian
I think you're OK to drive out there being responsible about things, but no way would I go on a plane yet. And I wouldn't wanna be sharing accommodation with people who had. But maybe camping is OK.
Can the other two not drive as well? The tunnel is the perfect thing for social distancing.
The aircraft thing worries me. They are both young and fit, but it seems a good way to transmit the virus.
They only have 8 days total, so the drive would be too much for them as regards eating into time.
Bum. Im currentlly trying to form a plan for at home.
I've just been to Scotland for a biking holiday, it all went smoothly and the social distancing was very well organised.
There are uplift venues there, as well as tons of amazing trails you can pedal up to.
Can be less grim than Morzine when it rains as well, IMO.
Out in Morzine at the moment, everything is open. Drove over, took the tunnel. Usual precautions of mask in service stations and shops. Masks in the lift queue. Mostly a normal summer out here.
Be sensible and it's no worse than anywhere else in Europe.

But surely by the fact you need these things implies the risk is greater than not being there at all ? Add to the fact you're increasing the chance of hitting the floor and needing medical attention, in a foreign hospital etc..
If you all drive it's no greater risk than heading off on a British mtb holiday away from home but obviously staying at home and not riding your bike or coming into contact with any friends or other people is the lowest risk. We're in Les Arcs and all the lift handlers are masked, all people on lifts with masks, hand sanitizer everywhere. The French are definitely more on it than back home and daily deaths are lower here.
Drive, it’s fine by boat or tunnel. Two young people can do it non-stop easy.
No real risk difference stopping at UK or French service stations.
From my day to day experience the biggest risk for most people is the Supermarket. Not even the staff at most follow social distancing rules and no one is regularly cleaning self serve or payment terminals.
Enjoy riding..
Where do they stay? We used to drive from Glasgow before kids got in the way, it really is an easy drive. Even from here you could leave Friday afternoon, arrive Saturday evening. Leave for home late Friday or early Saturday and still have the full weeks riding in

Eldest_oab is there too.
He flew out with a pal. Empty airport at Edinburgh and Geneva. Face masks on, they didn't eat or drink in airport, the plane was half empty. Thier host on Morzine picked them up.
The travel out is the real risk, but sensible precautions mitigate much, now they're there he says it's quieter than usual and feels fine.
