For most of my adult life I have had a healthy disdain for Morrisey. But I can't get over how good his new song is on a number of levels - to the point where I'm now verging on thinking that he really is a genius. Is it the beer talking? (I'm on a flexi day).
The staying in bed one? It's ace.
Is it the beer talking?
Yes.
It's a shit, ponderous song.
The message isn't necessarily out of place, mind.
I don't think it is ponderous. I love the keyboard stuff and the lyrics. But he used to be, and I imagine still is so annoying - and I'm a veggie. It's a shit, ponderous song.
Definitely the beer, he's still a nob. Always quickly try to mute every time I hear his whining. Each to their own tho'
Possibly a nob but that song is amazing!!
He may be a genius, he did write the Headmaster Ritual but he is a colossal oaf which leaves me a bit conflicted.
Lyrically it's at the bottom of his pile, musically it's a crayon drawing.
Great tune, IMHO.
Lyrically it's pretty mediocre - ponderous (like dannyh says above) is exactly the word. Moz has been hit and miss as a songwriter for years, though, so you'll get 3 or 4 of these for every one where he shows a clean pair of heels.
I really blooming like it, I think the message within is excellent.
The albums on pre-order, and I’m not a huge fan of most of his other stuff.
It's a pop song so don't expect a work of philosophical, lyrical or poetic genius.
I like the song, it doesn't mean he's not a pretentious prat tho'.
You're joking? It sounds like it's from the David Brent movie
It's been on six music all week and I've been humming the shit out of it.
Initial thoughts were the lyrics were a bit rubbish.
It's fine.
He's right about not reading the news, though.
🙂
I want to like morrissey but he's just become a bit dull. Most of The Smiths work was superb and some of the early solo work is good too. But since You Are the Quarry he doesn't do it for me anymore.
I so want to like his new stuff, but, well it's rubbish
What was that quote?
“Everyone grows out of their morrisey stage, except morrisey..”
Sean Hughes.
As pigface im conflicted. Never really got his solo stuff, heard this and thought the lyrics were pap (didn't really delve into them too much).
Thought his autobiography was rollicking good read until half way through when he started whining on about the court case. Self pitying fool I reckon.
It's not a bad song.
He is still a weapons grade kunt though
I like it, but then I like the Lostprophets so apparently I can differentiate between the music and the quality of the human being that created it
Mediocre..and that's being kind ..
Loved The Smiths so often give his solo stuff a punt. Can be hit and miss but the latest one is not too bad.
Doesn’t do anything for me, but neither did the Smiths.
How is it so HARD? to spell bloody MORRRISSSSEYY??
Let’s just say I literally punched myself a decade ago for buying one of his albums, it was that low ebb sounding/feeling I felt immediately from listening to it. Then I was caught out by one of his new tracks other day then heard another in the car today and felt like driving off the road.
Go figure/make of it what you will/bada bing bada boom!
I like the latest song
Wishing he'd actually stayed in bed the morning he was due to record it,
Shite song imo.
Now that Stewart Lee has slimmed down he writes a reasonable tune but
He is still a weapons grade kunt though
yep
The message is right up therewith Katy Perry's slave to the rhythm.
Listened to spent the day in bed on R2 yesterday driving down the a9 and thought itwasajoke
