Okay, a rather wine fuelled nostalgia based post, but amongst all their fantastic lines and sketches, "I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order" is still the one that cracks me up most, no matter how many times I hear it.

Mr Preview.

There was a retrospective on TV a couple of days ago. That was a lot of fun.

Fantastic sketch

"He'll not sell much ice cream going at that speed" is one of my other favourite lines

Says a hell of a lot about comedy/comedians nowadays that this is a tv highlight on Xmas day - Blankety Blank on Xmas night too.

A classic amongst classics - I was 8 years old and remember M&W was the highlight of Xmas day.

I'm happy to say that 50 years later nothing has changed!

Not really, it was an exception back then and has stood up to time very well. You might not want to look at other 'comedy' from 1971 and if you do you might feel the opposite of what it says about comedy today.

I watched their ‘lost tape’, wish I hadn’t

Easy to forget that they were the "specials", like most comedy shows, watch the regular series and you'll see quite a lot of misses as well as the hits.

But it wasn't trying to be edgy, or make a point, just clever but silly humour with celebs playing along, and that means it has aged better than many.

The advent of HD TV and the remastering of the tapes meant I couldn't stop looking at Ernie's elaborate comb-over.

And remembering Jerry Sadovitz's name for them.

I watched one the other night, it was rubbish.
Love them otherwise.

I couldn’t get over the fact that I’m about the same age as they were in that lost tape episode yet they looked so old
