As per the title. I can't believe that you can't have two iPods sharing iTunes. Anyone know how to make the whole library open to more than one iPod?

It probably won't be allowed due to anti piracy measures but i may be wrong

I have 3 apple devices all using the same iTunes library. Have either of your ipods been registered to another iTunes account?

Carry out a restore and connect to your main account.

You can have loads. We have 3 iPods and an iPad on 1 iTunes account on 1 computer. They just need to be set to the computer I think

Two iPads
Two iPhones
Two Nanos
One Classic
One Shuffle
Two Apple TVs

All synced to one laptop but some with two iTunes accounts

Six synced wirelessly and four by cable two at a time.

Works flawlessly.

5 devices on 2 iTunes accounts sharing 1 iTunes library. Works ok for music it's just the apps, books etc that are tied to the account they were bought on.

Two iPhones and an iPad, the iPad was initially set up from my iPhone 4 backup. Also an 80Gb, and 160Gb iPods and a Nano, all on my one iTunes account. They just connect up, no problem.

Nope, not a problem. It works, just sync to different playlists from the same library if you want different stuff on them...

If all the iDevices are linked to the same iTunes acct then it all just works.

As others have said you can set up playlists to sync different devices with different content.
When each device is connected you can set up the sync settings for each one - adding stuff to a playlist and syncing only that one list means that only the songs on that playlist are copied over.

I also signed up for iTunes Match so I can get any of the content without having to have it all with me.

On a similar note having an Apple TV and Home sharing/Match is brilliant. Now store all our DVDs on a NAS, add them to iTunes and watch via Apple TV - very slick.

If you want iDevices attached to different iTunes accts then you have a couple of options. (I tried these and they aren't ideal)

1. All music on shared drive, have iTunes on different machines or accounts - a real pain on accounts as only 1 iTunes can run on a machine. Works OK on different machines.

2. Log iTunes into each acct every time you attach a device - this is a pain though with the auto syncing over WiFi now as one device won't work if more than one are attached.

I don't thnk Apple stuff isn't that good at separating users sharing kit - iPads are single user and all devices work best when linked to one acct. If you accept this then it's brilliant.

Switch off syncing and copy over the ones you want.

iPod
iPod nano
Itouch
iPhone
iPod shuffle

I'm addicted.

Sigh.

When you open up iTunes hold down the shift key. Then it should give you the option to add a new account, or swap between multiple accounts.

I got this -

the OP wants to share 1 library, not have multiple libraries.

Thanks some.

I'll try the options main problem is the iPod has been linked to another computer which has since died and OH doesn't want to lose the music from iPod. Being a Sony laptop isn't really helping as there seems to be an inherent clash.

Have a look for an ipod to itunes utility. That will allow you to copy the music from the orphaned ipod to the PC. Wipe ipod once that's done and off you go.

If you're looking to sync many pods with one library no problems (usually), sharing a library between accounts is a bit more involved.
