<NES/>
Table loaded with cakes in the office today with a sign saying MacMillan Cancer Relief...

I gets my cake and starts doing a bank transfer ( cashless society). Whilst doing this I enquired what the /PeakyClimbers bit was at the end of the URL

"It's the 3 Peaks", she says proudly. "We're doing it at the end of September"

Eek, what do I do...

1) Cancel the payment, hand back the cake and stomp off muttering about grockles blocking the bloody roads through Seathwaite at 2am every weekend.

2) Explain what the problems are with N3P and why it's deeply compromised, give them the money but suggest they do something more worthwhile and less damaging.

3) Complete the payment, hold the rictus grin and slink off without saying anything more.

4) Congratulations. please give your bus driver my best regards for the awesome challenge they are undertaking..

Answers on a postcard please...

Definitely number 2 from your list. Won't be an easy conversation but an opportunity to have a positive impact on the choices available to them

What did you do?

Or are you still standing there awkwardly, waiting for the voting results?

I vote for 2 but I bet you did 3 😉

I am indeed a spineless cakemonster.
3 indeed.

I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when someone did option 2 as suggested by Spacey.

Get over yourself?

That's easy for you to say but what about all the poor locals second home owners from Prestbury getting woken up in their rural idyl at 2am by noisy coaches reversing up and down the Borrowdale road, and pumped up cherriddy walkers shitting all over the Petunias in the front gardens.

It's an outrage I tell you.

By the time they're signed up and baking cakes, I'm not sure that any change of direction is going to happen. If you can catch them at the planning stage, maybe.

So 3) for me please.

Yeah, I was expecting there to be more to the story than that. Must be a living hell. I'll send my prayers.

😀

As well as the above points, presumably the first several tens of quid raised per person will be going on logistics rather than to chariddy anyway - same as charity skydives; I'm not subsidising your fun but I'll pay if you're genuinely overcoming a major fear/phobia to do it

5) Organise a new challenge combining 3 peaks with tough mudder and have fun!

Exactly

Add in pallets of single use plastic water bottles at the summit.

And ideally airdrop them in. Don't worry about removing them after though, don't want to cause any more nuisance or pollution.

Not everyone. The two groups I know who have done it paid their own way. (My comment to one of them was that the driving-between-hills challenge was far harder than the walking challenge.)

Presumably those of you taking the mick out of the charidee walkers have never climbed any of the mountains and driven there under your steam, contributed to the congestion and footfall, etc?

Unless you're prepared tp never go in the hills yourself, then the best you can do is encourage them not to be in the minority that does a bad job, and hope they have a good , safe day.

An awful lot of the whinging about this comes from armchair mountaineers from the comfort of their own armchairs.

Re. 3 peaks people needing rescuing... well all the people I've had to assist rescue this year have been proper climbers. But I'm not going to tell them to stay home either.

This. I'm not saying this is the case here, but the number of people who visit the hills regularly and then complain about how busy the hills are these days is staggering.

I've contributed to climate change too, I hope that doesn't stop me having an opinion.

I do get your point, but aren't we all hypocrites.
