Just read the news about China and Russia signing an agreement to build a lunar space research station. Is fiction becoming reality here? Bit later than anticipated at least 22-25 years late but exciting none the less.
Anyone fancy a few month stint there?
Exciting ! More like the new cold war front line = terrifying.
Except this time round the USA will be much weaker.
I'm thinking it's just a new space race but for something more concerning than prestige this time.

I'll set my phasers to 'stun' just in case. Normally they're on 'astound'.

Is the dress code still 'clothes that zip up at the back'?

You know, at some point in the near future (for the sake of us all continuing on the one planet we got ) we've got to let go of both "The Red's are coming!" and "The Yellow Peril".
Will they have eagles?
Will they have eagles?
Not sure about Eagles, but I reckon it's highly likely that they'll have a nuclear waste dump on the dark side. Whether it goes critical and blasts the moon off on a deep space adventure I'm not sure about.

Polyester and flares is de rigueur on the moon.
Polyester
Won't there be a risk of static electricity!

Mine default to 'Oh, I've left the gas on..'
Think the US has matured from a national space programme to a commercial one - or at least some sort of hybrid. This is the only way space exploration will continue and technology will advance orders of magnitude more quickly without the budgetary, bureaucratic and political shackles of national programmes. They'll probably do it (the Russians and Chinese), but it wont be quick - imagine these two nations trying to collaborate? they don't stand a chance really. And after they've done it they're realise that it will cost billions per year to maintain and continue it and to what end? Russia can't afford it. Why build a base on the moon other than for political willy waving. The Apollo programme was cancelled earlier than intended because of the astronomical cost with zero benefit once the political willies had been waved, so the plug was pulled and we've seen no progress in manned exploration in 50 years since.
Once a real commercial reason for going and setting up a base on the moon has materialised then the commercial entities will be all over it.

Land grab, China is just expanding the places it can get resources from. Russians have a proven record in getting into space. On the moon there are no agreements governing resources so it's first come first served
I imagine they will get on fine
Ahh but it’s not first come first served is it? Some of the moon is already owned by people. My mate owns an acre of it - he has a stifficate and everything to prove it!
Even if the moon was made of gold, diamonds and oil - it would be too costly to mine it and send it back. So whatever resources are up there, they are going to stay there.
I was saving up for an Eagle but all my mates had squirmles so I spent my money on one of those.
The dog ate it the first night I had it. I never did get my Eagle and I'm still sore about it.
However I nearly bought my first house purely because it was in Alpha Road til the bulging walls were pointed out.
