Anyone ever been?
Id love to go for a week or so to soak up the vibe (man).
Is it like Edinburgh during the Fringe? Lots of stuff to see and do?
Id love to hear any experiences you may have had of it?
cheers,
paul
I was dragged along to see Alice Cooper in 2004 or so. It was quite intimate back then and my overriding memory is how expensive the booze was.
Sorry not much more to add.
It is like the fringe then? 🤣🤣
Is Alice Cooper more on the bebop or trad side of the genre?
Yeah the line up does seem to transcend the jazz scope. My pals went to see Wu Tang Clan there a few years ago. Not exactly jazz either.
I am led to believe lots of bands have performed at!
Do it. We did, as the final day and night at the end of a week road bike touring anti clockwise around Mont Blanc.
The day spent gradually wandering around the many lakeside jazz bars and cafés in the sunshine was superb; the closing night concert even better. Youssou N'Dour, then Lamomali et Matheui Cheddid, so a high energy, sub Saharan vibe.
- Logistics: stayed in Martigny before and after, taking the Swiss rail back afterwards. Then taking the train back to Geneva with the bikes the following day, collecting bike bags from left luggage. Martigny is close to both Verbier and the north side of the Grand St Bernard pass, where we had crossed from Aosta in Italy. If you haven't tried it before, the train station at the airport is literally in the basement.
A friend used to live on the lake shore just outside Montreaux. Literally 10 mins walk away. Beautiful. Especially whe the accom was free 😁. (Further from Montreaux the better ! It's a bit contrete-y. Though way nicer than Coventry. )
One year I was out there, Gary Moore was playing. Another year the Black Crowes. Both fabulous. But neither are exactly Miles Davis.
Oh yeah. And it's jocking pricey. Everything is (nip around the end of the lake into France to do a weekly shop if you're self catering).
Oh. And I can't believe nobody else mentioned this to get you in the mood
