It's just a bit of a whim at the moment, but I'm considering buying a little Honda Dax clone. It would be used when kayaking or rafting, to be able to drop the van off at the end of the route. My daughter might use it too - just for getting around locally - hence me wanting to stick to the 50cc Moped category.

Does anyone here have some experience of them?

I suppose two of them would fill an Edinburgh pothole just fine.

Maybe it would be ace for a very short journey- but a bicycle would be better, and something bigger would be infinitely better.
There are 'acer' options.

What about getting a C50 and turning it into a cafe racer?

I used to have a C50 gave it away in the end. You struggle to get one cheap now. I want one!

It’s really comfortable especially for short journeys you will never get bored with it.

used a Chaly for years a while back (Honda 3sp auto 70), as a town bike, fantastic, park side on etc, cheap to run, beware potholes, change oil every 1000, only donwside is that its maybe not quite enough to keep up with traffic in acceleration and 40 limit. (spares on fleabay)

for a learner, they have the advantage of being low and light, but a are bit less stable...

*tip, buy carefully, as you can interchange up to about a 160cc engine with some of them, so you might be able to buy a 50 then up it as reqd.......by just swoppping engine/carb

One of the attractions of the monkey bike would be that I could carry it in the back of the van.

re carrying, they're not a lot lighter than real bikes, esp a modern trials etc, e.g I got an ST70 and 2 mtb in Berlingo, I also managed a Beta Alp 200 (*bars revolved/rear light undone) and 2 mtb in the berlingo, check weights esp if you want to tail load, it might be a real sized bike 'mates' easier with other stuff for carrying, 10 miles on a monkey can be quite wearing and I wouldn't use a mway/dual carrieage as you haven't the speed.....

Honda Dax clone

Im interested. I saw loads of Dax's in Bruges. Awesome bikes.

Whoooa - seen the secondhand prices that they are asking? I'd see if you could source one yourself from Europe. Bet you'd save......

Plus it has to be a Dax. Not a sheswuijin etc
