You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My Brothe rin law has a 12 year old son who has just got a windows 10 laptop and an Iphone.
Obviously now my nephew has the opportunity to interact (on forums even lol) with weirdo's and see some bad shit!
He wants to know how he can block certain websites\content and also see what is being done on the laptop and phone.
Anyone have any suggestions bar "trust him" and "earn trust" etc
Depends on your isp and if your BIL wants to install web control software.
First make sure nephew doesn't have an admin account.
Our ISP has parental controls which blocks websites at their servers. Most dodgy stuff gets blocked. You can also add web sites as well if needed.
If the ISP doesn't have this then your BIL will need a 'net Nanny' type program.
Ah forgot about the ISP blocks - what other web control software is available? we use impero at work
Parental control software.
Easy route would have been to only allow visible use but that horse seems to have bolted as far as the phone goes. Of course using an ISP solution doesn't prevent him accessing anything on other networks nor booting the laptop off a USB if they are so inclined, that requires setting the appropriate boot conditions and passwording the BIOS.
Microsoft family - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12439/microsoft-account-set-child-restrictions-windows-10-xbox-one
Microsoft Family and the Apple version are easy to maintain and work well. You can set limits on apps, spending content etc and screen time.
The knack is to start early with a child profile specifically for them.
One thing to be mindful of is they can't control content through 3rd party browsers so remove firefox/chrome/opera etc and don't let them download them (easy to do with the software).
