Hi
Hope someone can help with this. Son has an X box series S so we're planning to get a monitor for it so he can play in his room (so we can watch TV downstairs) and will also get connected to a laptop for schoolwork.
I'm now completely baffled as to what monitors I need to look at. We were thinking 24" or maybe 27".
From what I can tell it should be 1440P /QHD / 2560x1440 pixels. (are these different ways of saying the same thing?)
Are we going to be able to tell the difference between a refresh rate of 60-75Hz and one of 144 or 165Hz and what difference does it make in games - at the moment he mainly plays FIFA and Fortnite but am expecting this to change as he gets older.
What difference will we see with 1ms or 5ms response time and what is VA or IPS?
What's the difference between a £200 and a £400 monitor?
Anyone have any recommendations of what they have or can point me in the direction of the idiot's guide to monitors.

yes

very very few series s games will run at > 75hz, which already looks very smooth to the human eye anyway. If you found an odd game that did support it, it would look very marginally less jerky

how long it takes for the screen to be updated after the console tells it to. 1/1000th of a second or 1/200th of a second. I would argue the latter is fast enough to make no difference.
I would go for a budget gaming monitor, possibly refurbished. Chances are he'll get annoyed and lob the controller through it sooner or later anyway.
Will we notice the difference dropping down to 1080P (full HD)?
that's probably more noticable than the other changes, but in my opinion its not super noticable. That said, there isn't a huge price difference between the two in my experiance.
