I still think there's a place for 10 speed. Sure, 1x11 is better but its not always needed.
I'd heard that the TdF riders are running 26" rims with 3"tyres this year.
Does that mean 29ers are dead then?

Yeah, you prefer something that's over really quickly rather than takes a while and encompasses endurance, style and timing. I can see that.
