Hi, as STW seems to be the oracle of all non-mtb-related info too, maybe someone could help me with this...

My car insurance is up for renewal. Rather than a standard insurance renewal, I'm now using my car as a work vehicle, and on top of that it's a bit modified.

It's a 2009 Suzuki Jimny, which has had the following added to it:

Winch
Front winch-plate
Front & rear reinforced recovery points
Raised suspension
Larger tyres
Lower-ratio transfer box
Rear seats stripped out and wooden storage/platform built in
etc

Anyone know which companies I should look at for insuring modified vehicles used for off-road work?

No direct experience of this type of vehicle, but popular brokers offering a range of policies from specialist underwriters are;

Adrian Flux
Insurance Choice
Camptons Insurance

If there aren't any available for the Jimmy, then it might be worth looking through some Land Rover magazines as there are plenty of insurance companies in them dealing with Defenders that have been extensively modified.

What spooky said and NFU.

My slightly modified 90 is with Adrian Flux, BIL's ex utility Defender is with NFU.

My mate has used Graham Gomm insurance for ever, I did a long time ago when I was a courier, was always very helpful.

NFU - its basically an farm/forestry vehicle which is their bread and butter.
And they won't batter you with a huge premium increase unlike the usuals as to them it isn't modified.

I have put my T5 on with Brentacre as they cover all modifications at no extra cost (other than engine mods) and cover for work use (farming) as well as domestic and pleasure. And were cheaper than NFU who would want to increase price for mods

Cheers folks, STW delivers once again. Heard good things of Adrian Flux, so will check if they also do insurance for work vehicles. Others also look helluva promising, especially NFU, but will give them all a bell.

Means I can play around at work (forestry surveyor) with the vehicle a bit more without worrying about damage as much as I used to!
