Just took ownership of a glorified van. Vauxhaul combo.

It has the "pov spec" stereo... Sorry... Infotainment system.

I am 90% sure as its the same touchscreen and the manual shows it with android auto that there is some way of getting android auto unlocked.

Now the obvious thing to do is ask vauxhaul but i suspect that will come with a ridiculous ransom cost to effectively "turn it on"

My googleing os not really coming up with whats actually possible.  Is there such a thing as a spotty youth who plugs their laptop in and fixes it for a vape and a can of monster zero?

There may be a third party work round. Any audio specialists locally ?  Vivaro Life owner here with android auto.  It may need a different unit behind the dash. I've got the car version Elite level but the base spec vans don't get the screens etc.  If you have the screen you might be able to get it?

If it's not enabled it mght just be a base model stereo. You may be able to get an add on unit that plugs into the aux input if there is one. I've been looking at my wife's Audi for this. It's about £200 for the kit and gives it wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

Yeah its the full touch screen job. Hilarious when you hit sources and the whole screen is just two buttons.

Coming at this from a tangent I looked at how to upgrade the stereo in my car on YouTube and took it from there. You may only need someone with an ODBC cable and a laptop to "unlock" the hidden features. Cable or wifi connection to the phone gives stablest sound transmission.

Could be a separate unit that you can swap out. For our VW that was all we needed, new stereo unit in the glove box coded to the vin number. Used the existing screen in the dash. 10 mins to fit, most of which was removing the glove box door for access.

Interesting nixie. It could be that. I will research.

In this day and age i would expect them all the be the same with features activated.

That was a 2016 plate golf. There were several different headunit models, with/without nav and various bits. Then there were 3 different screen sizes. Some features could be enabled but others needed different hardware. E.g. the basic stereo did not support android auto or rear view camera. But if you had rear view you could enable android auto. You could also fit later headunits to older cars giving them features that they were never sold with (it's a modular system).

Yeah i hadn't consideredthat the screen wasn't "the stereo"

I moss the days of "pull the shit tape deck oit and slot a new stereo in" where the biggest decision was "single or double DIN

Don't get nicked like they used to though. And IMHO they never just 'slot in' with all wires and adapter plugs stuffed into the back of the dashboard. Smashed in at best, then you'd realise the ariel wasn't plugged in.... 🤣

Given my musical taste, I seemed to always go for maximum din!

The wife's Booster came with carplay enabled but not android auto and apparently they hadn't reached an agreement with Google for that model year so it was in the unit but not enabled.

Some googling turnedmup a website where some very clever people had created a number of scripts that you run off an SD card allowed you to automatically enter the units developer mode and enable android auto.

Doing that unbeknownst to my wife was one of the scariest things!
