Real pity as there now seems to be a shortage of news comedy.

Pity for it to end before Andy Parsons says anything funny.

This is worse news than watching the actual news

Bet Dave picks it up, a la mash report. Nadz doesn’t have control of them.

Long overdue, it's very dated now. Haven't watched it in many years.

Champers all round at Mad Nadz's place I bet.

Now the Beeb just need to commission the Union Jack patriotic half hour, guaranteed 100% woke-free hosted by Paul Dacre, Jim Davidson and the Banjo player off Mumford and Sons.

Precious little satire out there right now so this will be missed, even if, as said above, it was hardly essential viewing of late.

They stopped being satirical or funny long ago, if fact for quite a few years the press have been playing them, by repeating the stories they were spreading the narrative.

Sacrilege! Over the last decade or so, as Mertonhas got progressively less funny (only by his very high standards)  Hislop has grown into the role.

For me, HIGNFY isn't funny for the sake of being funny. They're genuinely outraged by some of the shenanigans they cover and Hislop at least, genuinely knows of what he talks.

New episodes of that seem to be few and far between of late.
Dunno how long David Attenborough can keep knocking out documentaries, either at his age...

What has the beeb got left? the odd bit of horizon/panorama or Brian Cox? it's not looking good.

He's off target a bit sometimes but he is who he is. HIGNFY is a national institution.

Never understood how Andy Parsons and Hugh Dennis got this gig for so long. They're awful commedians*.

*I'm sure they're very good as stand ups when not under the watchful eye of Aunty.

A long time ago (20 years ago) Andy Parsons was a good stand up I used go see him in at the comedy store and at Edinburgh. Mock the week has been past it’s best for a long long time it’s getting stale even well Frankie Boyle was still on it.

HIGNFY is still good when there’s a big story in the news but I’m not sure how long it can survive Mad Nads

Remember that THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS sketch from the 60's? The one where John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Dudley Moore do the 'I'm Upper class, I'm middle class and I'm working class' routine.

It was so funny.....then.

I'll miss it, but dear god some of the new comedians, especially the women have been shite.

And

Never understood how Andy Parsons and Hugh Dennis got this gig for so long.

He hasn't been on for about 7 years?

At least that's one less outlet for Angela Barnes and her shouting.

I like it, it makes me laugh. Bit like 8 Out of 10 Cats, the formula has been done to death, but what else is there funny on tv to replace it? All they seem to come up with these days is moronic shite like Guessable. Be sorry to see MTW go.
And Andy Parsons hasn’t been on it for yonks. Still, wgas what the Mrs Brown’s Boys fans think tbh.

He got 11 series, which is still far too long imo.

gone down hill since Boyle left, became woke and insisted on having half the cast female even when they were unfunny. Still it was good to see some unknown comics on it that were actually funny but mostly unfunny ones of late.

Not sure what else on TV combines current affairs and comedy. Spitting Image is inside a paywall and The Mash Report was dire. Other than HIGNFY.

Not that I’ve ever seen it, but honestly, real life and news has gone so far past the parody event horizon that such shows have become a parody of themselves.

I think k the sneery leftism manifested by MTW and HIGNFY had a significant role in what happened with Brexit, they are lazy and tired television that just hang on the coat tails of the class driven comedy of the 60's. (TW3, Monty Python etc.)

That why MTW failed when it had to adapt to a new cultural environment, It's basic model was rooted in the last century.it wasn't a model that suited women, or non white comedians whose humour is much less related to the class nuances that dominate TV comedy output.

Perhaps the show just doesn't cut it with younger audiences.

Which probably doesn't really matter as we're led to believe they have the attention span of a gnat so 30mins is far too much and, they don't watch terrestrial so their interest is irrelevant.

I enjoy it. I find it usually funnier than HIGNFY which can be a bit patchy and I'll miss it especially the Dara and Ed show.

I also listen to The News Quiz and Dead Ringers. The latter went through a really poor patch a year or so ago and was dire - the writers I think. The last series was much betterer. I listened to the last couple of years output back to back whilst recovering from Covid which gives a real insight into how good (or not) they really are.

I thought it had ended to, but again normal tv has been so poor over the years I've just fallen out the habit of watching it.

They poke fun at the news. Often the subject of the news is what the government are up to. If you’ve had a right of centre government for over a decade, that’s what’s gonna happen. Plus, right wing comedy is shit.

Anyone old enough to remember the 80's and the variety of comedy output that we got served up? It was subversive and innovative, sweeping away many of the comedy cliches that came before it reinventing itself every couple of years, adapting to stay in touch with younger audiences and try new things.

We've been watching the same old farts do the same old things for 20 years. The whole circuit has been a gravy train for superior Cambridge graduate types who get opportunity after opportunity until the audience gets wearily familiar with them. Then there's a few roles left for those who are prepared to play the pleb.

The blame lies squarely with those in the commissioning roles at the major broadcasters.

at least they stick to comedy shows, rather than the Oxford old boys club who make running the country a farce.

"at least they stick to comedy shows, rather than the Oxford old boys club who make running the country a farce."

Peas in a pod sh*t innit? One supports the other and the lefty comedy shows have done more to promote our fascist politicians (BJ, JRM, NF etc) than any other platform.

Oxford graduates dominate nearly all our news media and Cambridge graduates have a virtual monopoly in entertainment media. It's like a perverse notion of balance, fill the news shows with Oxbridge Tories and the comedy shows with Oxbridge lefties and pretend it's representative of the country we live in.

Do you really think television isn't dominated by an 'old boys club' as well?

Ever wondered why the only black faces you saw on TV comedy shows for 20 years were white people in blackface?

One of the best thing in lockdown was getting into the Zoom virtual audience. 3 hours of good fun.

It'll be picked up by C4 - I think Have I got news for you will be next as part of the de-lefting of the media by our fascist govt.

sneery leftism

Yeah, good phrase. Torys should be respected, not mocked.
