Thinking of something like this:

http://mybooster.co.uk/product/900mhz-mobile-repeaters/gsm-900mhz-signal-booster-repeater/

Trying to use my phone in the new shop, call quality is pretty poor and data very slow, despite having a full number of dots on the signal meter. I'll have to use the mobile for a few weeks until the landline is installed, so don't have a choice really.

So do these things actually give a noticeable improvement?

we got a suresignal from Vodafone a few years back as a part of a contract negotiation

it's not 100% - but it's a better signal than it was.....I'd get one again

the one in the top post is illegal to use in the UK as it can interfere with the network. For that reason and per the ofcom website any person found guilty of installing or using such devices without a licence would be liable on conviction to a fine of up to £5,000 and/or up to 51 weeks’ imprisonment .

The only legal ones are the femtocells from the networks themselves or the Cel-Fi units that are available for the EE brands and o2. http://www.cel-fi.co.uk/

Basically if you've got broadband go for a femtocell, and if you haven't got broadband but the top of you house can get a 3G signal go for a cel-fi that integrates and optimises itself to avoid interfering with the network.

i've used suresignals for years and they just work.

Only downside is they were Vodaphone only

Hmm. This is only a temporary solution until the broadband and phone lines get installed, and the legality thing looks pretty dodgy.

So is it possible to get an external aerial for an iPhone 5? Cursory searching suggests a car cradle thing might work.

Ben…really?……... i'm disappointed in you…..someone with your mech/elec knowledge should be able to rig up a pedal powered solution with a suitable signal amplifier, have you tried wrapping your head in tin foil and trailing a wire to the highest point on the roof?.

OT, but what benefit is there in having a trike?

For calls? get a cheap phone with a good aerial that is just a phone.

For Data? Find the best signal in the place and rig up a usb dongle and a long wire, might even be something to hang outside if your walls are too thick or you have a nice metal cage building.

I'd want to finish off mildred as well, however i imagine my idea of finishing off mildred is likely to be rather at odds with your own.

Does it corner well?, how does it cope with uneven surfaces?, do you have any pics of the steering set-up, i'm rather intrigued with it actually…………with that twin disc setup i bet it could do some wicked endos.

I'll do some proper pictures - it's similar to recumbent trike steering, with Ackermann geometry.

It corners very nicely - of course because it's so big you need to think more like a vehicle, but easy to get used to. We weren't sure how the front suspension would behave, but It works nicely - they're short travel things. It's also possible to get it to lean slightly in corners because of the suspension.

No chance of endos I think - far too much weight at the back 😉
