Sorry if it has been done before but I cant find anything from searching.
Is there an app, either IOS or Android, that allows me to follow GPX routes offroad?
I have googled and came across Bike Hub which seems OK for point to point or road stuff but if I import a simple offroad GPX route, it gets itself in a knot because some of the bridleways or tracks aren't recognised.
If I cant get it working, I'll look at a dedicated device like the Holux
GPSport 260 - would I have the same issue with tracks that are not recognised?
Backcountry navigator on Android.
Will place your .gpx over OS maps 1:25k and 1:50k
Great bit of software. Will also mirror with your android wear watch if you have one. 🙄
+1 Backcountry Nav
Thanks, just tried to get it on my Android (work phone) and it seems the phone has been locked down so I cant add apps anymore 🙁
Anything similar for an iphone before I get into a long debate with work about me using a work phone for non work stuff.
viewranger will do it with audible alerts at waypoints and warnings if you go off track. all the thresholds are settable.
works pretty well if you have a fair idea of where you are heading. I just had it in my top pocket and got a reassuring ping at every waypoint.
Viewranger is what I use although generally I just use mapping apps for when I am a bit lost. New beta test OS app is very good.
Viewranger looks great, I'll have a play.
Thanks.
