Hi All, I'd really like to buy my special one a new phone for her birthday. She uses a Samsung now so it might be good to continue with that, 4G only and a really good camera please.
Google pixel 4a. If only for lack of bloatwear.
S10 onwards...
Google pixel 4a +1 all the phone I need.
Samsung S21
Samsung have trimmed the bloatware, promise decent support and OS updates and if you have a look on hotukdeals to see if there are any offers on at the moment.
The S21 camera is fantastic and has an optical zoom which really improves the range of pics its good for.
The A52 is also very good for a mid-ranger if the budget won't stretch to an S21.
You probably won't get a 4G only phone now unless you get something very old or cheap. You can always turn 5G off so it doesn't waste battery looking for signal if you're in the sticks.
I've an a52 5g replacing an older Samsung.
It's camera is fantastic and is waterproof so an ideal outdoor phone.
+1 for the A52 - someone of this parish said look for a phone with a Snapdragon processor as it uses less battery, took a punt on the A52 as the first "decent" phone I've bought myself (previously always just had the cheapest Samsung on contract) and it's fab, quick, great battery life, fast charge, great camera, good memory, 5G and still has an SD card slot (I believe they're getting rarer).
My other half has an A32 which you can still get in 4G flavour.
I'll vote Pixel, between me and the wife we have had pretty much all of them since the first one. She is currently on a 3a with a 6 on the way. I had a 4XL until it got water damaged so I'm on a £100 Motorola G9 until my contract is up in March.
Much better than the equivalent Saumsungs that we had previously. No random Samsung branded crap that you can't get rid of and you get Android updates before not Google phones as well.
Which rate the Gogle Pixel 4XL as the 3rd best camera on a mobile. 4g only. (Top is Apple iPhone 13 Pro, 2nd is Samsung Galaxy Note 20
"How good are the cameras?
The cameras on Pixel smartphones tend to be good and it's true too with the 4 XL. Here they are led by a 12.2Mp wide-angle lens and prove that in a world where 48 megapixels and more is the norm, more isn’t always better."

No fingerprint sensor though which would put me off apart from it being twice my budget for a phone.
Or the 4G Galaxy S20 FE? Still a great phone. I've had the 5G one for a while now. I actually prefer all the Samsung apps to Google's.
Thanks for all the info, The A52 is lookng good at the moment.
A52s is a little faster for £20 more.
Just a thought.
Look at the Xiaomi Poco range. I had an F1 now on an F3.

Oh, if there's a new version out then yeah, do that!

Latest iPhone.
Best thing I ever did.
Thanks for those early suggestions of a pixel 4a. Just replaced an iPhone 7 with one. Loving the battery, screen and camera. Really pleased to leave iOS behind for Android 12.
What's the issue with 5g? If you have a 4g SIM it shouldn't use 5g thus not wasting any unnecessary power.
