I made a game pie for dinner today. Was lovely. Pie is fantastic, isn't it?

Unfortunately the best pie maker the world has ever known died in 2001.
God bless my Mum & I wish someone could make pies like she did.
Our local butchers pies are awesome with a capital A, but not as good as me Ma's.

If you're ever heading from the north east up to Edinburgh way on the A69, the butchers in Lauder does some amazing steak pies.

In my book that's not a particularly high standard.

Butcher in Lauder is a bit good, not as good as the butcher in Melrose though, with a steak pie you get a jar of extra gravy too. Ooft, extra gravy!.

Maybe in your opinion, but only since 2001.

makes Pukka Pies a bit rubbish

So you actually though they were something like, even acceptable?

A mass produced 'pie', in a box?

WTF?

I can recommend this book PIE by Angela Boggiano if you're interested in making your own. OK I'll admit she's a friend and we got out copy for our wedding but it's served us well and all the recipes we've tried have been great.

Just had an excellent stake and ale pie in the Hare and Hounds near Hebden. One of the best I've ever had. Massive too.
