Mk 1 Nissan Quashqai leak in spare wheel compartment

Has anyone had this issue? A relatively new to me 2012 Quashqui – I was looking in the spare wheel compartment and noticed pooling water (not just a little bit of dampness) – no sign of a hole where it could have come in, however some of the soft trim on the r/h side of the boot is slightly damp and the car does have a non-recent ding on that side (I can see that the bumper assembly is not quite flush) so perhaps the rear light assembly seal has failed. I have also read online that leaks can start at the integral roof bars and run down the inside. I hate these sorts of problems as I could spend hours trying to solve the issue so I was wondering if anyone else had encountered it and identified the issue? TIA.

We had one at work and it was the rear wash-wipe hose up near the hatch hinge that had burst 👍🏻

2012 will be the facelift - we have one. No issues here but try and look to see where running in from - I've had water track around the boot rubbers on a couple of cars, sealed with silicone. Dry it out, maybe pop some paper down to see if you can spot where it's coming from. Remove boot carpet.

Ahh, that sounds a likely reason - I shall take a look right now...

Hmmm, no sign of any water getting in however, I did note that when I opened the boot lid, water dripped into the boot – but it would take one hell of a lot of drips to collect as much water as I found.

It hasn’t been pressure washed by your local £5 car wash has it?

No, but I have pressure washed it once so it could have been me.

Check boot handle, as quite alot 'fall off' and if not repaired could cause water ingress.

Check whether it's getting in through seals around the lights.

As "stickman check all the rear light seals, the high-level brake light on our old Note used to leak, then the left brake light.

Any drainage gutters blocked? Either sunroof or tailgate. These usually have a tube to drain water away & these get blocked with leaves & grot. The overspill can end up in all sorts of places.

same here with our old note, not just the spare wheel well but the rear footwells too, they were swimming.  tried everything, had the light clusters off to re-seal, the rear washer pipe, ive never found the cause so i just took the bung out of the spare wheel well and drilled drain holes in the footwell so it hopefully doesnt pool.

In our old Auris the spare wheel compartment was filling with water, and the footwells of the rear ar seats. I realised that the footwells were just getting water from the flooded boot, under the back seats. Guessed probably light clusters, just raised boot and put mastik around light clusters, and drilled a small hole to drain the spare wheel compartment just for good measure. Sorted.

The high-level brake light in most cars is a likely suspect. They are fairly unanimously leaky.
