Way back in 1990 I treated myself to a Mission Cyrus 2 amp. I use it to listen to the CD player, but after the decorator tripped all our circuits unplugging the stuff in the lounge, I discovered that it was due to a badly wired plug to the amp. The neutral and earth wires had pulled out of the poles, so I assume for the split second the amp was being fed live with no earth. It doesn't work now.
Can these things be repaired? Does anyone know of anywhere in West Yorks to take it? I know it's old, but I love it too much to consign it to scrap for want of a bit of expert help.
Cyrus would still be willing to help despite its age.

Abacus electronics in Leeds was recommended on here a few years back.
I've had mine back to Cyrus a few times with no problems.
If you look above where the mains lead plugs in, that's an inline mains fuse holder. Just use small screwdriver to lever it open. It'll hold a 5x20mm fuse - which would have detonated if either of the loose wires contacted live. That seems likely if it tripped your mains.
These fuses can be obtained from maplin or the like. Often there will be a spare hidden inside the fuse holder (it holds one fuse which connects across the terminals and a second behind that). Probably be 2A or 3.15A for that amp, might be T2A or T3.15A (this is a time delay for the fuse). This will be stamped on one end of the fuse that you remove, in case you have to remove it. If you can't get to maplin or the like, send me the value and your address and I'll post you one. Email on profile.
Wow, thanks for all the help. I'll have a go at the fuse when I've got five minutes.
When I say detonated, you could well be left with just the aluminium end caps of the fuse left in the holder 🙂
😀
yes definitely serviceable, i have a cyrus one that i had recaped and all that. indeed thats the beauty of older kit it can be fixed and tweaked.
cyrus themselves can be a bit pricey but try asking about if there's a local specialist who knows cyrus.
online these guys are well regarded, although i havnt used them myself... http://www.amprepairservices.co.uk/cyrus-onetwo/4590672419

+1 for Wilkinson's. They repaired my Cyrus two a few years back
It was the fuse. Hoorah, and thanks everyone.
Good to know. My Cyrus 2 is still going strong too 🙂
