So its attack helicopters going into Libya next? quelle surprise. What on earth is wrong with this countries leaders and their macho posturing? Just let them get on with it FFS!!

Anyone prepared to hazard a guess at when the ground troops will be going in? I'll give it 6 months tops before Dave is stood outside number 10, stoney-faced, justifying why we 'had' to go in?

I really cannot believe this at all.

With the Examples of Iraq and Afghanistan and the unpopular disaster they have become is this the proof that Cameron really is thick? He really should have known how stupid this was. No good reason to intervene anyway

Its so obvious this is a complete mistake that will end in disaster.

Trouble is, we're too committed now. We need their oil (the french more so) and we've pissed Gadaffi off so much that he'll mess everyone about or go elsewhere.
We should have just minded our own business, because now we face being dragged into another Iraq/Afg. Dave should have learned from Tonys mistakes.

It's inevitable really...now that NATO countries have interfered and pissed off Gaddafi, I expect they're reluctant to let him get back into power.

He's shown in the past that he's supportive of terrorism and with the resources he has available to him I expect it's too much of a risk.

Besides...there's oil involved.

This. I think they thought/hoped there would be a popular uprising like in Egypt and it would be over in 6 weeks.

Yup, unfortunately for the Libyans, Gadaffi has proved far more a bastard than Mubarak who is pretty comfortable bombing his peeps.
Now, Dave etc just cannot allow him to return to power. Like I said it's too late we've done it now.

Gadaffi is still in power and without continual support from outside to the Rebels he will regain all the country very quickly.

Its rather obvious that there is no popular uprising against Gadaffi

Hardly mission creep, more like mission plan.

Gaddaffi had some big leverage over the government to get the Lockerbie bomber out and they didnt want him using it again.

I think what happened was there WAS an uprising, when NATO went in to "help" they all thought we'd do it for them and backed away. What remains is a bit of a mess that we have no choice but to clear up.

Mission creep is the plan. After Iraq and Afghanistan, the public weren't going to accept an intervention on that scale, so just build it up a bit at a time.

I'd just wish they'd get on with it.

As for Cameron, he knows that you sometimes have to make unpopular decisions as PM(his track record proves he's capable of that), if any Government wanted only to be popular we would have the best healthcare/education in the world, but we wouldn't pay any tax.

As for disaster...depends on how you define it of course.
