so my new car has had a replacement windscreen , and it doesn’t have an inbuilt wire aerial.

Looking on eBay there are self adhesive screen mount aerials , some with amps, some without, anyone had any experience of either? Does it need to be amplified?

Well they fitted the wrong screen... get them back to fit the right one!

Or drill a hole in the wing and fit one of those 80's electric retractable aerials.

Ah, that reminds me - my old Ford Escort had an electric aerial.  I was livin' the dream back then... 😉

A chippy who used to do some set building for us had a coat hanger as an aerial on his van, a mate had thoughtfully shaped into a classic cock and balls form for him.

what kind of radio is it for - are you talking about a DAB aeriel as what you're fitting as a replacement?

If the factory aerial was lost as part of the screen replacement its difficult to know if any amplifer was lost or damaged in the process with it so Its prob best to fit a new aerial, amplifier and cabling all the way to the radio so that you know that what you are putting in is complete and works.

I have to say - get much better DAB reception on the cheapo aftermarket glass mount aeriel I've got in both my motors than from the factory fitted DAB radios I've had in several different hire vehicles recently so sticking something of you're own in may well be an upgrade rather than just a repair

I bought a sticky jobbie for my roadster before XMas , got it from an Audio specialist along with a small DAB control unit for my boggo Boss system that’s been in from new.

Peal the backing off and apply in between the rear view mirror. It’s so tiny I barely notice it’s there anymore.

Does it work? Well yes 80% of the time, if I go through poor reception areas it breaks the signal but soon captures it back so no real bother.

£38 IIRC with fitting.

Get a mag mount DAB antenna about £40-ish. Works really well, very few places I’ve driven where I don’t get a signal, and those are for just a few seconds.

I’m surprised the screen had an antenna built in, most cars have it built into the rear side windows or back window, the windscreen, if it has anything built in, has heating elements.
