More surprised than anything that I got a 7 day ban for posting a thread titled "Anyone else got a tool fetish"? And attached a post that included the RS SDU shock I was working on and the awesome little tool I bought that you use to push and insert the attachment eyelets for the shock mount. Apologies for the somewhat winey vent but that site is idiotically over modded. Bah. Yanks. I'm off to polish my tool.
Are you going to show us the awesome little tool?
Â
You didn't post pics of you polishing your tool did you!!? Filth!
Haha no, no......I have a private channel for that...... 😉 I cant post images sadly but its SRAM's own tool. Definately better than the video I watched where the guy used bits of cut off bathroom sealant tips. And yes, I did try that at first but I crushed both ends so.... Not sure about that.
Try r/BicylingCirlejerk next time O_o
First time on reddit?
Some mods are fine, others are nasty little incels who could do with getting outside occasionally (likely with the help of a crane)
A lot of it's ai and therefore doesn't work. I got banned from the whole site a couple of weeks back for sarcastically saying "self hating jews" frinstance, presumably that hit the right triggers. There was an appeal process which was human but took longer than the ban to come through.Â
I think keeping a good distance from any phrases or words that could easily be construed in a certain undesirable way is defo best practice everywhere including the real world. Real hurt and pain often accompanies those seemingly harmless posts but mine was just a post about a bike tool. I've contributed a lot (as have many others) over the years to that sub but I'll move on now. Â
I've got a lifetime ban from mildlyinteresting for posting things that the mods judged were slightly more than mildly. Tepid, maybe.
To be fair "tool fetish" upsetting the Yanks doesn't surprise me. Words don't always mean the same thing to different people and Mods sometimes but not always errs on the side of caution. I got a ban on STW for suggesting people make a Google search that I'd made about a cold geological phenomenon that gave surprising results. And some of the results I got when trying to find a picture of Hannu Mikkola's Ford rally car recently were equally surprising. The last time I saw someone had tried to talk about a country India squables with it was still censored here.
The bar has to be set somewhere and what amuses me/you might not amuse some others.
I just hope I'm not overstepping the mark here, Mods, I've checked and my first example now gets results for the geological phenomenon.
Ah, its not really an issue 🙂 Its just a symptom of the current state of mind some people have got themselves into and as you say, the bar has to be raised at some point to prevent chaos. Its more the robotic, clinical nature of the ban that irks. Mods have to be SO careful these days I guess. Not a role I would choose.

A lot of subs use automod tools, it most likely saw a banned word and nuked the post. There's a link to message the mods on most subs and they can usually override it.
I used to mod a couple of (non-adult) hobbyist subreddits and we used to get *a lot* of spam, some of which was designed specifically to put NSFW stuff up in non-NSFW ways e.g. onlyfans skanks trying to flog their wares. Hence the automod filters have to get stricter and stricter to catch it.Â

Thanks for the info mate! Its fine though. Not worth the stress 🙂
Reddit mods are volunteers working for a billion dollar ad sales company. They're exposed to weird and extreme content and harrowing situations with no money and no training.
