I wonder what would happen if TJ kicked a helmet-wearing dog?
😆

You're not allowed to call them that any more, I believe the current term is handicapable.

I did wind my window down on a rainy Nov commute home and suggest to a chav dressed in black with his hoodie up and no lights that he should get some lights unless he wanted to become a statistic. his response was **** off.
Ignore them? Your mental choice to get upset or stay happy.
I wear a helmet and have a bell. It’s not the law but do as you please.
If it becomes law, let the police enforce it.
I couldn’t give 2 monkeys as I don’t have 2 monkeys 😉
How many sheds have you got?
I find using a bell to warn walkers you are approaching is generally the best way to go.
However, very occasionally you meet people who just don't want you to be sharing space them whatever you do, so they will moan regardless. Doesn't happen very often. Usually they turn around with a grumpy face ready for confrontation, see how big and scary* I am, then quickly change their mind and say nothing as I cheerily say thanks/hello as I ride past.
* Not meant to be humble brag. I am big, and despite my best efforts, can apparently look scary, but I'm not scary at all when you get to know me :-). It's a bit like not having cars pull out on you on the motorway because you are driving a 'masculine' car :-).
and the bloke who’s family were riding the wrong way came and asked me unsolicited advice on what he needed to buy to ride at Swinley…
At least one of you was confused about what “unsolicited” means.

Me too, if you’ve been struck down with leprosy. All joking aside there’s enough shit on my handlebars without adding a bell. The power of the Hope hub is all that’s needed 😀

Ah, true... bit of a Bushism....Trump however I guess only knows the other meaning of solicit.
At last!! The forum's back on track! Slagging SR off for having a rant, even after he's lived here for 15 years some SILLY BASTARD says, 'piss off back' (to Canada of all places)
PMSL!
Shirly just a case of people thinking they know what is best for other people and needing to shut the hell up...
Don’t discount the entertainment value of a bell. Some of the best angry small man responses I’ve seen were from er, angry small men that think you are bullying them out the way 😃😃😃
I usually ignore those giving unsolicited advice.
Sometimes I ask if they've got a piece of paper and a pen. If they say yes, I ask them to jot their name and number down. Then tell them that when I give a **** what they think, I'll give them a call.
Sometimes a quick **** Off suffices.
I was riding along a canal towpath once, saw 3 older men walking abreast in front of me in the same direction. I pinged my bell, one of them put his hands to his ears and said loudly 'arh, the bells, the bells' Quasimodo style. I told him I was just trying to be helpful. Then I called him a count (without the 'o'). Not my finest retort, but sometimes being brief does the job.
True story.

Quite :-), but posting something on a forum opens up your opinion or comment to others. You are inviting it.
In many of the cases discussed above you should be able to expect to mind your own business, and have good reason to tell the person sticking their nose in to jeff off.
And, or course, one person's friendly comment is another person's rude interference.

Ah, but then you get "why can't you just say hello, those bells make me jump"
There are some folk who want to moan, they'll moan about the weather (either too hot or too cold, makes no difference) these are the same folk who I met on a well known descent near me, when they were complaining about the groms carving lines into the undergrowth, and commenting on how ugly they look. "But", I said, "Every ten minutes we're told kids are getting fatter and they should be out more, this is kids playing in the woods" "\Well" he Gammoned "Some one should stop it"
As some-one pointed out up there, some people want to world to conform to their arbitrary rules, and they don't mind telling anyone , whether they want to hear it or no.
