Has anyone tried almogran ? I had migraines for about 25 years but they stopped. I was free for 10 years after a head injury but they started again this year. Now the visual disturbances are worse ie very severe visual disterbance and a band of shimmering zigzags but the pain is a lot less . I took the alogran for the first time today and the almost total loss of effective vision straightened out in about 10 minutes. Is this normal ? I don't trust it and wonder if others have had similar experiences. I still have a sense of tension in my head but no actual pain or nausea.
Only thing that ever worked for me was Imigran. Not tried that one (and - touch wood - not had one for a good few years now).
Have you tried rizatriptan? After life long headaches it's the only thing that helps when I've got a bad one!!!
I get similar migraines - lots of visual distortion but not much actual pain. It usually lasts about 30-45min. A dull ache the day after, a bit of a headache, but certainly nothing like what a lot of people get. I don't usually bother taking anything, maybe an ibuprofen but that's it.
I spoke too soon the migraine kicked in and knocked me flat ,headache but no stabbing pain and no vomiting so better than my old ones .Just started to come round.
The Dr had said the Almogran would help with nausea so it may have had some benefit, but I had not had any with my two previous "new" migraines .
I'm not sure what you mean by you don't trust it? I have tried it in the past, and also zolmitriptan, but I find sumatriptan works best for me. Triptans treat the pain phase rather than the aura of a migraine and you shouldn't take one during a visual aura, you should wait for aura to ease and the pain to start, otherwise they might not be as effective.
Thanks Vicky ,the lack of trust was the speed at which the aura went probably coupled with the proven to be correct suspicion that it could not be over that easily . I'll try waiting next time. My "new" auras are the most unsettling bit for me as the visual disturbance is almost total so I was keen to see if the drugs worked and the instructions say take as soon as the migraine starts which is when I used to take migraleave with some success.
Co-codamol for me but I rarely get them since I went onto omeprazole as I can eat well again and I can digest food better. Hunger was often the trigger point for me.
I have been diagnosed with migraine but don' t get visual disturbance but a severe pain behind the eyes. Prescribed Sumatriptan ( Imigran Recovery) does the trick usually within a couple of hours. Side effects are a bit of nausea and a stiff neck with a warm feeling and sensitivity to warm drinks for a while.
From your first post, could you try another head injury? 😉
Nothing useful to add, migraines are bastards and I only get rare mild ones.
Nausea and stiff neck are also symptoms of a migraine.
Awful things.
Just recovering from 2 ocular migraines within 3 days, completely out of the blue and very disconcerting.
Interestingly both on days I hadn't eaten much either, usually take Zolmitriptan for the pain.
Horrible things, generally stress related for me
