Went to a local skatepark on Wednesday for an over 18s night to have a play on a BMX. Quite enjoyed it. Saw a skateboard hanging on the wall, asked if I could have a cheeky go. Bloody loved it - despite not having stood on one for about fifteen years I was cracking off ollies, shove-its, manuals and kick turns on the mini ramp by the end of the night. Not very well, but still.

So obviously now I need a skateboard. I still have my old one but the deck is shot (both ends are sharp) so I should be able to reuse the trucks and wheels. What size deck should I be looking at? I've fairly big feet and I know I like something nicely concave.

Any advice much appreciated!

After rewatching lots of 90s skate videos I now want a Zero deck 😀

8.5 inch would be a good size if it's a popsicle shape. There has been a real resurgence in shaped decks again up to and beyond 9 inch. Check out Black Label and Welcome skateboards to see what I mean.

Death skateboards are made of fine wood and cheaper than a lot of the american decks. Heroin skateboards as well have quite the cult following. Check out Deerman of Dark Woods for instance:

For middle aged goodness, the Tired Skateboards video released the other week was fun (and not full of the usual tech gubbins)

I love skate videos

Popsicle is the kinda symmetrical shape right? That was what I was thinking, so I reckon 8 - 8.5" should be about right?

I will have a look at some of those brands (and indeed videos. I also love skate videos).

Update: ended up buying a full set up after realising my old stuff was, well, old. Got a Chocolate deck in 8.125" and built it up with Route One bits - seems fine.

Mostly been cruising around the streets so far but managed to get back to the skatepark yesterday. Not really progressed loads, getting faster and higher with ollies and more comfortable in the ramp. More practice needed now I think.

I've been getting back into it now my kids are picking it up (I'm 40). Apart from the reluctance to jump down stairs any more I think I could actually get ok again. Ok I'm starting again from a low base but I'm fitter now and maybe more patient in actually learning correct foot placement for flips and that.

Still, the most fun thing I did the other day was a fast 4 wheel FS 180 powerslide followed by bombing the rest of the hill fakie. Oh yes.

went to a skatepark a few years ago with my ex's wee boy and decided to have a go...

Hadn't been on a board for around 16 years but soon got the hang of olling again. Got carried away and popped a kickflip shovit type thing...landed on my ass and broke 2 fingers in my hand

lesson learned, you don't bounce like you did as a kid..not been on one since
