Eyup,
Looking for some inspiration. My better half has moved jobs which now means we can take holidays outside of school holidays - yay!
So we've a week booked off mid October and looking to get away.
First requirement is that is needs to be warmish and sunny. Low to mid 20s is fine!
Second requirement is stuff to do! We both enjoy active stuff like walking and swimming etc. Ability to cycle (either road or gravel - as we both do those disciplines) would be nice but not essential at all.
Doing some kind of walking tour could also be good fun
Whatcha got in terms of ideas?
We've been to the canaries and madeira a lot, and also southern spain a lot so we had been thinking maybe Algarve, but I'm not sure how much active stuff there is to do other than beach, really.
We're just heading home from Nice, my first visit.
Lovely city, good public transport, opportunities for good road cycling, gravel cycling and presumably MTB. We walked loads although strictly touristy stuff around the old towns in Nice, Antibes, Ville-franche, Eze.
I spotted opportunities for longer coastal walks, and really fancied the hike up to Eze Village which appeared as if it could be extended to a nearby ~500m summit.
We enjoyed four days of mid-high twenties temperatures, not sure what October would be like...
Mid October might be a bit late for Corsica but otherwise would suit the bill?
Majorca should do all those things well and will be warm in October. Lots of options for transport, places to stay etc. depending what you like. Car hire is cheap out of season too.
Yes I've just been looking at Majorca, North west of the island looks great, could do a section of the gr221 long distance walk
Club la Santa, Lanzarote?
We've been to the Balearics a few times in the October half term which is actually late in the month. Suits your activity requirements, but you could definitely get unlucky with the weather.
There's a long distance coastal path right round Menorca. Majoca is a well known cycling destination.

I'm off there for a gravel cycling holiday at the end of the month so there's definitely plenty of that on offer (and decent cycling roads to) but I guess a hassle packing kit and renting bikes if you only want to do it one or two days whilst out there.
Thanks all
@FuzzyWuzzy would be interested in what route you're doing or in general anything further you know about the riding in the area
We used to do Majorca in October, but the last couple of times, maybe 5 years ago, the weather was poor, including flooding where folk died.
Sardinia is worth a look if flights work for you.

I'll likely be going with Love Velo but haven't finalised the booking yet so don't have the route GPXs (just the start & destination and distances each day), it's point to point so they move your luggage to a different hotel each day (but self-guided riding). Will post how it goes and route info after I return 🙂
Our club is off to Majorca mid-October for a week of cycling. Past two years have been 25C and sunny.
We’re looking at going somewhere else after this for a week after half term. Again not bound by school holidays. Possibly Lisbon or Cape Verse. Mrs TiRed doesn’t do heights so walking in Madeira has been denied.

I wouldn't worry too much about Madeira - there are plenty of non-terrifying walk options
I'm sitting in Nerja right now. It's along from Málaga so should be nice in October
First time here and it's absolutely fantastic. I haven't been near a bike but there are loads of XC riders floating around and tons of roadies. I'm currently sitting on the roof terrace of our villa looking up at some massive mountains a couple of miles behind the resort. We also popped up to Frigiliana the other day and there were several large maps of long distance walking routes, so there's definitely a lot of stuff here.
The town itself is fantastic and so far removed from the typical Spanish package holiday resort. Wonderful old town, very calm and peaceful, zero traditional egg and chips style British pubs, very cosmopolitan but incredibly reasonably priced. We'll be back again next year
Thanks all
Yes the area around Nerja is very nice outside of mid summer (when it's extremely hot!). Spent a lot of time down there in the past as my sister in law lived in Orgiva and we used to visit regularly. Not been for a long time though!
