Last year I bought MS 365 Family for the inlaws as I'm their IT support and it was just easier for me to buy it than them. So renewal is coming up and MS will auto renew for £79.99 using my card unless I cancel. However, I can buy 365 on Amazon for £65.68, so makes sense to do that.

Anyone done this - do I cancel the DD and then wait for it to expire and the next day, take out the Amazon offer using the same email?

Cancel it and Microsoft will offer a 3 month extension if you renew. Renew then cancel again. Buy the cheapest legit licence (last time it was Argos of all places but it changes all the time). You can apply it any time - it runs from the end of your current subscription.

Never just cancel Direct Debits, a creditor will still try to take payment which will bounce and potentially show as a missed payment on your credit rating. You need to cancel it with MS first.

Good point, I meant cancel from your Microsoft account. That triggers the retention offer (or it did for me a few months ago)

Yeah. The OP asked "do I cancel the DD and then wait," that's what I was replying to. I've no idea about any offers, I'd just use the free online version of MS Office on anything that isn't work-provided.

You don't have to wait - if you see a good offer on 365 just buy it and apply it to the account - I think you can stack up to 5 years worth, but I've never done more than 2. Cheapest I can see right now is from Blue Nandu at £48.99. They might sound a little dubious but I got my last 365 year from them and it was fine.

I meant with them - just cancel the auto renewal via DD.

As it is, it won't actually renew I had a look and the card expired last year.

Very useful, will have a look!

On the DD cancellation thing, when I have cancelled one with Barclays it made no actual difference, they just carried on processing the payment requests!

When the quarterly Argos deal comes up buy a couple and either stack them or stick one in the drawer.

Yep that worked, signed up for another year at £48.99!

Great tip!
