My Samsung mobile takes a micro SD card, got a 2 gig in there at the moment but want one with more storage capacity.
According to Samsung website my phone will accept up to 8gig so my question is what physically stops a larger capacity card working?
Nothing physical as such usually, is a software thing.
The problem is that you usually can't rewrite the low level firmware of your phone, so it might as well be physical (it might even be on some chipset that isn't upgradeable).
Sometimes the maximum published is just the maximum they've tested with, and it'll work fine with bigger, other times it will not see a bigger card at all.
Theoretically,
If your device supports 8Gb cards, that means it supports SDHC, which means it should support up to 32Gb at a card reader level at least.
What Samsung do higher up the food chain is anyone's guess though. There could well be some other restrictions I suppose.
As JM ^^ said, it might well be that they just never bothered testing bigger cards. Might be worth looking up your handset on androidforums.com, see if anyone else has tried it.
What I really want to know is how the hell do they fit 32gb+ on something that size?
Google SDXC if you want a shock. (-:
Dunno but i have a 32gb in my Samsung and get to use all of its storage...
If you look on mobymemory.co.uk they usually test all their stuff with most phones, so you'll know if it works despite the manufacturer's statements.
I'm waiting for 64Gb SDXC cards to reach a point when I won't need a bank loan to buy one!
