Hi all, so I've been teaching for a few years now and am becoming increasingly concerned with the literacy of pupils. So I have a cunning plan. My exam sets are going to have a book club.
Question is how do I get second hand books like Michael Crichton etc (easily accessible reading) with my budget (£0.00)?
Help
Roughly £2 a pop for Jurassic Park on abebooks, but not sold in any quantity.
How many of each do you need?
Or you could trawl the charity shops armed with a bag of pound coins.
TBH I suspect many ppl would happily donate some books, as I quite a few I've no use for, but postage would be the issue. Maybe talk to some of your local charity shops, as I'd suspect they are oversubscribed for book donations. Post ad with your local "freecycle" group or post wtd ad on local facebook groups?
want some SF? I have hundreds to get rid of including one micheal Crichton - sphere!

...just a thought.
Due to council cut backs we have lost most of our public libraries. If the same has happened round your way the local authority may have several thousand books in storage that it no longer needs. It may be worth dropped them a line.
If it were me I'd be posting on Freecycle and asking the question there - it generally always comes up trumps for me. Or could you ask the school to ask parents to donate books. Or have a jumble sale and use proceeds to hit local car boot sales and buy books there (usually cost next to nothing).
