Looking at some vintage metal adverts such as the below examples

Has anyone bought anything like this and can comment on where they bought them and what the quality was like?
I wouldn't buy online, get yourself to an antique shop to look at stuff in person.
Saying that some people on retrobike have bought retro bike signs from this guy and say the quality is good.

Thanks, those all seem to be plastic though.

You realise they are new copies of the original?
I've seen some at Bike jumbles, look good from a distance, but on closer inspection you can tell immediately that they are new.
If you fancy some for decoration, then I don't see why not, the originals are £200+, so out of the price range of normal people, hence a market for these copies.
I have a couple of those CycleSigns, err, signs. Bought them for my gym. They're very nice.
You realise they are new copies of the original?
Yeah I realise that, as you say actual salvaged signs are a fortune. It's just for a touch of decoration on otherwise plain white block walls in my garage.
Crikey! We (my Dad Mum & me) had a petrol station from 1969-2000 up in Durham. If only I’d known what this kind of stuff would be worth nowadays!
We had everything from a Duckhams wall thermometer to numerous Castrol signs. Shell oil measuring jugs to Red X single shot & long shot pumps & most stuff in between.
Hindsight eh?
Most of the ones I’ve seen have been litho printed, or similar process, which is fine except that after a while most of the colours fade with the exception of magenta and cyan, leaving them a pinky-mauve colour. Original signs are enamel, and will last decades.
If you want some print of vintage or maybe USA stuff try my wife’s stuff on Etsy. She paints the original paintings and sells them but also does art prints or giclee print (archive 80 years plus) quality.
My favourite is from an actual picture I took at Katz Deli in NYc (this is a giclee print)
Or my second favourite.
Not every print option is available yet as the shop is only just set up but if you want something just ask her via Etsy.
She’s putting more up all the time and is open to any ideas of new work!
BTW thanks to those who have gone to have a look. 😃
As a printer/signmaker I love an original sign and the reproductions aren't really for me (although I've made a fair few over the years. 😃) Especially egregious are the ones such as in the OP with digitally printed "rust" or patina, although they look OK, serve a purpose (decoration) and at that price you can't really complain tbh.
Started to see a lot of (I assume) far-east mass produced cast iron signs, even at local "antique" places, which actually look pretty good but again not really my thing. You can easily tell they're new!
these ones I quite like as they are, in their own way, originals, and will have had some thought put into them & been hand-assembled, at least.I have a couple of those CycleSigns, err, signs. Bought them for my gym. They’re very nice.
As for "giclee prints", get in the sea 😉 Nice pics tho!
yep, you ****ed up there 😃Crikey! We (my Dad Mum & me) had a petrol station from 1969-2000 up in Durham. If only I’d known what this kind of stuff would be worth nowadays!
