Ive got a TendaNova MW6 system which has been running nicely for several months. 3 nodes give me a solid 100meg connection anywhere in the house (large house but 1990's so no heavy internal walls etc)
in the past week a neighbour has added a network using the same 5g channel (40) which results all the modern phones and computers having speed test results topping out at 15meg. anything connecting to 2.4g still thumps along at 120meg
seems simple, just change the channel right? but no, apparently the channels are fixed at Channel 40 for 5g and channel 6 for 2.4g and I can't even deactivate the 5g in favour of a perfectly adequate 2.4g
so short of bombers for the neighbour or lining up the all the units on the roof and attempting a DoS attack on their new network, I'm looking at a new network right?
so - any recommendations for a <£200 mesh system that has basic management like selectable channel and assignable IP for some devices (another annoyance with the Tenda)?
Thanks in advance!
Eero and the older puck style google Wi-Fi are both ok as long as the assignable IP works - the specs suggest that’s the case.
One thing worth mentioning if you consider eero or google Wi-Fi - the Ukcamelcamel price tracking tool is quite helpful for seeing the “real” price of items on Amazon. It will show you the cheapest price in the last year and the frequency of promotions.
never heard of ukcamelcamel but that looks like it will be useful so thanks for that!
Work out which neighbour it is and ask them to change channel?
Yeah could do that, but no way of knowing who it is and it’s entirely possible they’ve bought the same bobbins WiFi kit I have so can’t change it!
Tenda’s have always been a bit pony
Mesh systems along with everything else seem to have jumped in price lately so new & not shite <£200 might be a challenge new.
I’d not bother with wifi6, wifi5 is generally more than sufficient for most domestic situations. I’d stick with tp-link, Linksys or netgear personally.
Whatever you get stick with tri-band systems.
Can’t be more specific but if you find so you think fits the bill post it up if your unsure.
