I've joined up with a group that are far more organised than I'd ever be...already booking for next year.

I need accomodation for three people, each with their own bedroom, in a location very close to the centre of Meribel. Don't mind if apartment or hotel but must be affordable.

Travelling Thursday to Tuesday in early Feb of 2019.  Went to L2A this year and found reasonably priced apartment without a problem, seems harder in Meribel!!

Any suggestions please?  I know a lot of folk on here are familiar with French skiing so hopeful someone might point us in the right direction.  I realise that the Thursday to Tuesday thing is a major pain!

Cheers

Thursday to Tuesday? During the French school holidays? Why!? Seriously - if you want a short break you’ll likely be much better going Saturday to Thursday. At least keep it within one calendar week rather than spreading across two.

Agree with you entirely but I'm the 'new bloke' in this group and just going with the flow!  I found somewhere in Meribel Motteret but its 2k just for the flat for Wed-Tues!  No real idea of that as a location either - need to swat up on Meribel area - seems strung out rather than a central village?

Your Akela needs a slap round the chops!

How many of you are going? I would have thought that a hotel would be a more flexible option than an apartment. Sorry I can't be more specifically helpful about Meribel, but I've only been in the summer.

This year in mid Jan we stayed here (4 mates):

http://www.alpine-bars.com/index.php/venue/la-taverne-2/#La%20Taverne

It is above/part of one of the best bars in Meribel, so it is V noisy until 1am. Like, V noisy. Live bands, DJs etc. However, it is cheap accommodation, brilliantly located, does a great breakfast, rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff awesome. It’s quite nice having such a popular bar that is ‘yours’ for the duration of your stay.

We figured that as we were going for a long boys weekend, sleeping before 1am wasn’t particularly a priority anyway. After 1, it was silent (and we were usually fairly steamboats).

Agree that it seems more difficult in Meribel that other places ( we choose somewhere different each year).

Also, Meribel really is perfectly located in the trios vallees  - relatively simple to get up and out into other valleys on either side. And this year, as with all resorts, bloody hell did we have Amazing skiing. Rond Point a hoot at the end of the day too.

YMMV, IMHO etc etc

BSN - thanks.  Did you have single rooms there or shared?  Reviews talk about small and having to have skis in rooms etc?  Any idea what you paid - don't seem to have a direct email.

Not sure about single rooms, we shared 2 twin rooms between the four of us. Yes rooms were small-ish, and yes skis on balcony. Ski boots were dried on radiators int eh room, smell from mine was horrific by day 4! It really us just rooms above a very lively bar/restaurant, not a proper ‘hotel’, it is v basic.

For 2 Twin rooms we paid 800E for 4 nights, shared between the 4 of us, we got it through booking.com

It for sure won’t be for everyone, not really any amenities, unless you count having your own bar 😉

The location won it for us - 2 mins walk to ski slopes, 30seconds to any number of bars, clubs and restaurants. We are all dads in our 40s, so ease of access to things kept motivation high to get out and enjoy it all.

Think of it more as your favourite local pub, where you get to know all the staff, with a. Great atmosphere after skiing and all through the night, and you only have to crawl upstairs to bed. 🤩

We've stayed in Hotel Eliova Le Genepi a few times. It's a 3 star hotel so nothing fancy but it's a palace compared to the Taverne..:-)

It's just up the hill from town but still a good location. It's a short walk to the escalator that allows you to ski down to the main ski lift area (La Chaudanne)

IF there are rooms available for your dates, try booking through the hotel website as they are normally cheaper than Booking.com.
