You have to have one and tweet and facebook incessantly about it if you're an MTB pro. It's the law.

I love mine. Got it 10 days ago brand new and it drives great.

Due a service in 18,456 miles, I'll let you know about servicing costs then

Averaged 38mpg combined so far over a thousand or so miles.

I drive these vans for work. In 8 years I've had 4 Vito's from new, doing about 50,000 per year and a new one every 2 years/100,000 miles. Only ever had one breakdown in all that time. I find them comfortable and quieter than other vans I've driven. Does about 450 miles to a tank full, about £90 to fill up. Can't comment on running costs tho because I don't see the bills.

HTH!

Yep, great van, I drive one daily(100.300 miles) nothing major to report reliability wise, rust was bad on earlier models, but they do drive nicer than the vws imho and seem pretty good on fuel..

A wear and tear item seems to be the propshaft centre bearing going at 90.000 miles, servicable at about £300 quid exc labour.(Vibration at 50-60 mph)

I also have a Vito sport "long"(94.000 miles) and can get 5 passengers and six bikes including kit bags no problem, tail gate door is good for changing under when its wet too..

I have a 54 plate one,an old new style one. Complete rust bucket. Drives nice though and has been very reliable. Just make sure you get a newer one. I understand its just these earlier ones that suffer from the rust problem.

would 4 bikes and 4 people in a 7 or 8 seater SWB with the back set of seats out be comfortable enough? (I mean in terms of bike and luggage space)

Would that ^^ stull be considered as a minibus then??
I did have a 53 plate from new, loved it and it genuinely drove like a car, pretty quick too, alloys an looked good!
Sold after 3 1/2 years. Did have signs of rust around the door sills etc. one thing I would say is back then and also when I got the new tranny in 07 you didn't get anywhere near as much kit on the vito for the same amount of money, things such as leccy windows, air con, Bluetooth etc.

We had one for 8 or 9 years at work, it worked hard and never once broke down and was good to drive. The only downside is that you could watch it rust as you drove along.

I've not owned one but my local tyre LBS has one and it eats electrics like no tomorrow. That and it looks like its been dipped in the north sea. A Transit wouldn't fair much better past a certain age but its what I'd go for.

Only if Merc give them to you and your internet presence (facebook and twitter) is what decides if you get to get a new one next year or not!

I'd not own one unless it was a very new one, I know a company that have several 4 year old vito's and sprinters and they look like the Pride of Bruges now with rust dribbling from every weld and panel!

I'm hoping it'll go on DFDS as a car 😉
