Ok
Here goes nothing.
I would like to own a masking spray that helps to ensure I dont smell like 4 day old gym kit on warmer days.
Some sort of clean scent to cover up that sweaty pit smell, cheesy feet, sweaty socks, cycling kit or old bath towel smell.
Nothing too fragrant like Jphn Paul Gautier la male, more earthy or masculine would be nice.
Sorted for anti persperant deodorant, but would like something a little more fragrant.
Any ideas welcome

Try soap and water?

Made me laugh 😂

Davidoff Cool Water

I don't wear aftershave more than once or twice a year, or perfume, but it's the one Mrs Fazzini likes the best on me.

Zara mens aftershave 'Vibrant Leather'

Cheap enough if you don't like it and it's a copy of the aftershave Creed

Creed for me. Bois Du Portugal is my day time daily. Aventus of going out at weekends and Virgin Island Water for holidays…..I’m running low on all of them so do need a trip abroad to restock. I hate paying UK prices. I do get about 12 months of use out of the daily.

In the usual STW fashion of recommending what you use yourself….

Davidoff Cool Water

Used to love that stuff, then I went away one weekend and somehow managed to smash a full bottle of it inside my bag, en route. When I opened my bag the smell was overwhelming as every item of clothing in the bag was now covered in it. I wreaked of it for the entire weekend. Can’t stand the stuff now 😂

Not sure tbh. I only ever saw it in duty free. Another option is tobacco & oud.

Much as I despise JD, Sauvage or 'sausage' is a very decent scent

If you want to go cheap and cheerful the lynx daily fragrance range do the job, they have suitably manly names like oak and leather, or BDSM and steel. that kind of thing

As a fresh, clean fragrance I really like Murdock Black Tea. Tend to use that as a work scent. For other use Viktor & Rolph Spicebomb, D&G Intenso or Acqua di Gio Absolu are really nice, woody spiced scents. But my favourite is Armani Stronger With You.

Penhaligon's Halfeti is a good masculine crowd-pleaser. Halfeti Cedar if you like it a bit more woody.

If you're looking to go full on masculine, earthy and niche then check out Nasomatto Terroni. Just tread carefully with it. And never tell an Italian that's what you're wearing...

I would happily wear a combination of petrol, gt85, hot freshly laid tarmac, unlit cigars, new bike tyres, roasting coffee, solvant cement and pine sap being run through a belt sander.
However other members of the public might not appreciate me smelling like the Brands Hatch pitlane, Hence asking.....

+1 for Lynx daily fragrance, £6 lasts a long time and I use it as an ad hoc indoor freshen up.

For outside the house Armani Code sits well with me, particularly Absolute Gold. Feels a bit grown up and not overpowering.

Creed Green Irish Tweed, good enough for Cary Grant. Mrs Sandwich gets weak at the knees when I wear it, she may not do the same for you OP!

Received a sample of Creed Aventus today and can't say it works for me. Basically the same as my Mont Blanc Explorer, which I knew, but I can't believe they're that similar when worn one spray of each on opposite wrists. Totally not worth the 7 or 8 times the price.

I don’t get the love for Creed. The smell doesn’t last long. I tried Aventus and Viking (1 on each wrist) and within an hour the smell was gone. But the Spicebomb I put on was still sniffable 10 hours later.

I'm a fan of a mix of two stroke mix and freshly cut oak. However I logged in to suggest Castrol R as well.
However if you really are an older gentleman, or whish to smell like one, pee yourself a bit.

L'occitane eau des baux

One of the few that seems to still smell of anything at all 10 minutes after I put it on. Clean and simple.
Apparently:
Top notes: Pink pepper, Cardamom
Middle notes: Cypress, Incense
Base notes: Vanilla, Tonka bean

PS: ever been told off (probably by a woman) for spraying perfume and then sniffing it immediately?
Saying "I know, I'm just catching the top notes" will gain you a (respectfully?) raised eyebrow and some peace and quiet 😉

Rob… OK..hear me out…
You wanna smell nice… you want something to last…
May i suggest a PROPER gentleman’s fragrance…one I’m addicted to…. Halfeti, By Penhalignas

OK..it’s VERY expensive, but it’s VERY VERY nice, and really lasts (as in, a spray or two lasts all day)…

Maybe pick up a Penhaligns tester and see what you think!

Creed works for me. Have been wearing it for about 20 years….not the same bottle. But girlfriend likes it and it seems to last as she can smell it after a night out….which is what counts really?

Victor and rolf spice bomb. I, and especially my wife, far prefer their 'antidote' making it over Decade ago. Spice bomb is very good though, lasts days it seems.

I do think with aftershave that those of us who have found what we like tend not to steer of our chosen course.
I’m kind of wedlocked into Creed. I’d love to try some of the other recommendations, especially DrP’s Halfeti, but when you’re paying £2/300 a bottle, I just go with what I know works for me.

But I am tempted with the Halfeti….could just be another costly mistake!

(Ps….I’m a bit drunk so ignore me!!)

Yes it sounds like something you probably don’t want to smell like but the clumsily named Bvlgari Man wood essence, would fit the bill.
It is a mature, masculine scent but still fresh and airy. I find it nicely hangs around all day yet never overpowering.

https://www.bulgari.com/en-gb/fragrances/mens/bvlgari-man-wood-essence-eau-de-parfum-46100

I like man wood.

I love Creed, especially Aventus. But there’s a problem in that the quality is so variable between batches.

For me I’ve been like a junkie chasing that first hit. Had a bottle bought as a gift years ago which was incredible. Every time I’ve tried it since it’s either been weaker or not even the same. Keep trying with samples whenever I’m in a big department store.

Smelly’s are a bit of a hobby. But don’t understand the love for a lot of these modern Tom Ford/Penhalligons unisex concoctions. Why would a grown man want to go around smelling like a candle?

I had to look up Creed Aventus (clearly I'm not into aftershaves, at all). Wasn't disappointed.
And I don't mean that as a dig, I find luxury brands fascinating - the combination of marketing cliche or fineline parody and unshakeable confidence is quite something, and they usually manage really high standards of presentation and branding.

delicately scented with the smell of success

The signature Creed Aventus bottle is designed to reflect the iconic shape of a hip flask; often seen carried by horsemen of the past and gives a nod to ancient heroes and mythology. Aventus also serves as a homage to iconic leaders, including Alexander the Great and Napoleon Bonaparte, whose triumphs and legacy remain iconic today.

You can see where Rapha took their lead from when reading brand copy like this.

I fell for some Jo Malone once, which smelled great for about 2hrs. Waste of money.

i still have some JPG Le Male - the one you used to get a squirt of for £1 in nightclubs. If you read up on it, they changed the formula at a certain year and the original is now much sought after.

I really like Prada Amber por homme, I think it's discontinued but you can still buy it online if you hunt around.

That's the problem with smellies... finaly find one you like and it gets discontinued.

I bought a bottle of that about 5 years ago, it's almost nice but far too sickly sweet for me really.
Still got 3/4ths of the bottle left.

Indeed. One of my favourite ever was a Versace Versus. Got discontinued, never lasted that long in the first place. God knows what the odd one you see on eBay for silly money would be like but I’m tempted.

That's where I am with antidote, part used bottles on ebay are silly money. If its been stored in its box not in sunlight its probably still good but....

This thread has made me Google for a clone... found one with good reviews for £25 /100ml so I've taken a punt.

afterlife aftershave don't hold with any of 'em". He glared at great aunt Florrie who was of quite a different opinion and almost chandelier with Pisces, St Christopher, crucifix, rabbits foot, and lucky whales teeth about her neck. "I don't give a toss what you do with me when I have shrugged me mortal coil. Shove a bit of flex up my back passage, stick a light bulb in my mouth, and stand me in the hall.
