looking at going to Arenal D'en Castell in Menorca. seems ok for the family for a week any one been there? if so any good / recommend things to do places to eat?
very nice island for family holidays.
been to cala'n'forcat, cala'santandria and cala'galdana in the past.
the old capital cuidadella is ace to for eating by the harbourside.
Been to naya fornells nice for chill out,
menorca is not too lively a lot of Spanish have holiday homes on the island,
I would say very nice for family holiday,
you'll have a great time
Been to cala'n forcat. Pleasant enough but dull dull dull. Most entertainment in the resort revolves around the "town square" and the main road through to los delfines, and is mostly tribute acts. More like blackpool than barcelona
Ok for a week but after 10 days we were ready to go home. 2 weeks is too long
Took the local bus to Ciutadella, the one big town on the western end of the island, that was nice. Would have preferred to be staying there TBH but it was a last minute kind of holiday after a long wet english summer, anywhere warm & dry would have done
Yeh we went to arenal last October, lovely island, quiet, easy to drive around. We went in October and it wasn't that warm and it was pretty windy. Did lots of walks, great holiday.
Where are you looking at for accommodation?
We went last year to Cala n Forcat - very Brits abroad type place, with loads of pubs serving fried breaky and fish+chips. Still, the pubs all have bouncey castles and entertainment for the kids + cheap beer
Get a hire car and travel around. Cala Macarella is an absolutely stunning beach and is a must see. Ciutadella is a very pleasant city to eat and drink/walk around. The North of the Island has a good fishing village (cant remember name), with some expensive, but lovely restaurants.
We hired bikes there and travelled along the cycle routes. Be careful, some roads just peter out into unrideable (well on a shopper with my 2 yo on back!!) rocky slopes. Would be good on an MTB though - I saw quite a few good tracks.
Depends on where you are staying, but I think it's lovely. Some places are a bit 'Full English Breakfast', but some are very nice.
Wherever you stay a day trip to Ciutadella is a good idea, and maybe Mahon too. The island is actually two smaller islands that drifted into each other, so the two halves are quite different in geology terms.
I think it is illegal to build on the beaches located on the north/north-west of the island, so if you can hire a car you can visit these and they are beautiful. The chance of having a beach to yourself is very possible.
I'm not sure what is around for kids as I don't have any, sorry!
I really like the island, it is very quiet and some people find it too boring. I like snorkeling, a bit of sun, nice beaches, not too many kids about and not too expensive so it's ideal for me. There's not much going on in the evenings in amy of the main resorts and even less in the smaller ones. I prefer Formentera (catch a flight to Ibiza then boat accross) as it's even quiter and even fewer kids and louts, more snorkeling and an unspoiled vibe. Menorca isn't so much laid back as sleepy and quiet, if like me you like that then go for it. Avoid the Brits abroad type places as others have mentioned above, unless you like watered down beer, fry ups all day and a fist fight in the sand.
