In the midst of all the world madness I have a family trip planned to Menorca.

Any advice on car hire?

What should we see, where should we go?

All advice appreciated. Hopefully the world will have returned to a more peaceful state.

I used Cicar in Gran Canaria; no deposit, no excess, no credit card required. They didn’t even look at the car when I returned it. They have an office in Menorca airport.

Where in Menorca? Cala Galdana has a few independent places that are cheap and rent out usable cars. Can't recall the names, but the one we used was up the hill from the Artemis Hotel.

We have used 'ok', goldcar and partners over the years. All of those are based in the industrial estate next to the airport and run a shuttle bus from the car park. Not had issue with either, but I'm a bit wary of goldcar, will probably go 'ok' again this year.
From our looking it seems prices have rocketed, it's looking like we will be paying double what we have in the past 🙁
The island is small and pretty easy to drive around, you can drive the length of the place in about an hour.
Places to go see that I can think of right now, mole a huge fort on the eastest point if the island north of mau, albufera de es gray a nature reserve midish north coast, Pedreres de s'Hostal a old quarry and gardens on the outskirts of cuitadella bit hard to find.
We mostly use the car to get to places to walk different parts of the cami de cavalle.

@monkeyp, that sounds like partners, they were the first we used from that location, very layed back place. Artiem audax hotel is where the we stay, adults only, reasonable priced spa facilities, nice quiet little town (well it is when we go in October) and good walks in either direction along the coast to quiet secluded beaches.

Just spotted you mention family. There is a decent zoo in the middle of the island. Es grau town/village has a big shallow bay with plenty of water sport hire places.

I think Cicar is Canaries only. We’re also going to Menorca in the summer and hoping to hire a car for a few days, but also hoping we can find a firm that drops off and picks up at the hotel rather than the airport.

Edit - evidently Cicar do Balearics too but I don’t know whether they do hotel drop offs

Bumpity bump.

Having been into the Cicar/Cabrera Medina office in Playa Blanca, they subcontract to Enterprise in the Balearics. Which is a pity as the Corsa we had for three days was utterly painless.

All the options seem to be frantic…

Dunno about menorca but there's a big shortage of hire cars in Spain at the moment due to geo political situations.

Be aware of scammers and deals too good to be true as they will find a problem with the car when you return it, and rinse your credit card accordingly.

Alternatively local busses are worth looking at and cost pence in comparison.

Have a look on here, it has a forum that includes a car hire section.
The airport has lots of options as you come our of customs.
