After the Gofar days, but well before the Great Hack, around 2003-ish I think. Never been away.

Profile says 2010, probably when the world wide web became faster, subscribed to the mag way before that (I think) at Earl's Court cycle show.

Nah, can’t be, he got a lifetime ban 😉

I've been here since 2002 I think. I've had plenty of usernames. Picked this one up after I hurled a brilliantly crude and totally justified insult at the knob cheese that runs Superstar components.

It'll make a few folk feel old, but I've been married for over a decade.

Made some genuine lifelong pals through here via Mlehworld. Had a mlehmeat just last week in fact.

Profile says 2009, but definitely been here longer than that - sometime after GoFar, but pre-Sean schism, and can remember when Brant sold keenly priced bikes rather than over priced blankets.

Hi Dave! (I assume you’re *the* Dave H?)

For over 25 years I guess for the majority of my online life. That’s a long time for a five letter moniker.

I am rubish about dates but I had issue 2 and a back number of issue. I can remember Simon Barnes arriving at SITs and Gofar setting of the riders at one of the Polaris Challenge events.

I think I joined in 2002 - my wife worked with Biff and I found out about this place through him. Used to spend a lot of time on here before family and work took over, and old man wrists stopped me from cycling. Still drop by though, and still enjoy the magazine.

Joined in about 2007 to ask if I should buy a full sus bike, ended up with a nice Chumba VF2 frame from Si at Progressive bikes who was very helpful in the forum, as were all the folks on here who helped with advice as I built it up with a variety of bits from classifieds and new.

I'm in Seaforth, near Manly (hence the username - I now run my own workshop from home). The Worlds was good fun - although I got there late and didn't see anywhere near as much of the race or course as I'd planned due to a stinker of a hangover...

EDIT: That ^^ was meant to be a reply to one of the questions on page 1, but the quote didn't show.

I recognise some of the names above for sure - glad to hear it's still a nice place to frequent!

I used to ride with Biff (possibly a different Biff, though) and I bought my Surly 1x1 from Matt at Chelmer. Seems like only yesterday...

I was around pre-hack, I can't remember precisely when, but my username's the same. Just about the only think I can remember doing back then was posting a thread asking whether grinding a tooth off a singlespeed chainring was a viable way of altering gear ratios - I got some splendidly serious and very patient responses explaining why it wouldn't work. I still don't understand why 🙂

Early 2004 looking at the mag covers, like a fair few was very active on Bikemagic before it went titsup.com.

I'm not a big poster and rarely join in on the "debate threads" but this place has been a big support network for me & I've met some really top people off her 🙂

and looking at logins its allways been mrovershoot or MrOvershoot

Been here since early 2003, but under a variety of names. More of a lurker than a poster, but I appreciate the forum enormously and happily subscribe to the mag to support the site.

I think I joined here straight from the shitshifter list, probably 2001 ? Bought the first issue and reconnected with some old friends, made tons of new friends, spent best part of ten years exploring cheeky Calderdale trails and writing bollocks for the magazine, still check in most days but rarely post anything

Another 1st edition person here. Before that it was more bikemagic and MTB-wales.

It was the appeal of the whole, riding your bike in the hills/woods is fun, ethos, and I still think the magazine articles and imagery follows that.

You probably won't remember this, but some time in the early 2000s I broke a bike frame. Despite the fact that you'd never met me, you offered to lend me a bike for a while, simply because you thought I might need one (and I guess you knew that we had friends in common). As it happened I had a spare bike so didn't need to take you up on the offer. I still haven't forgotten that kindness though. Thanks.

There's a decent amount of kindness around here (e.g. that Dave H bloke once lent me his car for a day just because it made it a bit easier for me to get mine serviced). I think that rubs off on people a bit. Thanks to all the kind people out there. You all rock!

I lost a bit of time reading those 20 year old threads. I managed to find the coffee lounge on there, which I seem to have contributed to a bit, so yes, I was there then and am still here now.

2003 ish I think. I was looking for my 2nd mtb, after an entry level MTB and someone I knew put a post up for opinions/ ideas and I signed up. Ended up with a Kinesis Maxlight. Last 3 years I have not posted at all as a rough time in life, but have been very much with you all by listening i.e. reading the posts.

Lovely to see the old posts, thanks.

Hey, @Sanny – I've never seen your full title before – Sanny the sandshoe cyclist!

Good, and sad too, to see posts from folk I knew IRL who are no longer here – Jenn, and my late partner, Andy.

I've been here since about 2002, although I hardly ever post.

^ mugsys_m8 – hope things look up for you.

Mag since issue 3, and I remember wasting spending useful time in the Stirling Uni computer labs in 2001-02 on the forum. Drifted away at times between then and now but can't ever completely escape...

Not sure if I had a different user name initially or not.

Yep, 2004-5ish I think for me; I was in the London/ Surrey Hills are back in the day and made it to a couple of STW group rides round Swinley, meeting pook, PeterPoddy and various other people whose names I've forgotten. I've never been a big poster, but while I was in Canada I liked the feeling of connection to the UK I got from reading threads. Now I'm back on the correct side of the Atlantic, but still procrastinate by lurking here.

@dave_h - Usenet! Spent far too many hours on uk.rec.cycling and rec.bicycles.tech in the mid to late 90s. Frequently on the green-screen VT220 terminals in the library because they were most likely to be available.

But, on here since about 2002-ish, I think. Crikey...

@tjagain nope, 2005 at the latest. I met you the year I broke my collarbone, I arranged a ride in the Pentlands on here with you and Househusband and that was when I first met you. I was riding the Cotic Soul I had at the time, and when Househusband had a quick go on it you and I started wondering if he was ever going to return it! He mentioned that evening that he'd bought one for himself so he really was taken with it.

Found the forum after buying issue 8. MBUK started to get really boring around then 7 I'd been reading Chip's work since MTB Pro & MTB World.

This site made me buy an Inbred, I think it was mandatory back then.

Yer not far wrong! I ended up buying two. Still got them out in the shed, I must stop procrastinating, get myself some d3o soft knee protection*, get them out of the shed, bleed the brakes, clean the dust off and clean the tyres out and put new sealant in.
I’ll probably ride the 853 Singlespeed mostly, it’s more suited to freewheeling downhill and pushing uphill…

*Due to needing something to protect my knees after the bike dumped me on the ground and messed my knee up forever. ☹️

I'm another GoFar user back when I was at uni and my blog was part of the ShitShifter blog ring. I was one of the 5 issues for a tenner subscribers - I think issue 5 in the archive is a scan of my copy because they lost the original files?

I think my daughter is now older than I was when I started posting here!
