60 not a great age, loved Alas Smith and Jones as well as Not the Nine O'clock news.

RIP

New comedians could learn a lot from his legacy.

His memory "kinda lingers" (watched the sketch with my folks and pretended not to understand!)

A gramophone...

Constable Savage....

Gerald the Gorilla....

RIP

Just watching Not the Nine O'clock news and thinking how funny even today. Few things like it or Mel around today.

Wonder if his heart attack has anything to do with years of being addicted to over the counter pain killers, he was taking whole packets every day for years...

For years when anybody ever says 'wild' in a conversation I've always mentally said "wild, I was absolutely livid"...

Sad news, but left a lot of people happy over the years.

Darling, I've found the tortoise!
Every time I mow the lawn and hit a stone/edge of path/reptile.
Just one of those gags that stuck in the brain.

Sad news.

There's a fantastic portrait of him that sums his comedy perfectly. It's of him peering round a corner, really simple but fantastic. I'm incapable of linking as I'm computer illiterate, so if any one can search for "Mel Smith portrait" and post a link, it would be appreciated.

And so say all of us! RIP Mel you were a genius of comedy.

Here's looking forward to the In memory show, it'll be leagues ahead of most of the modern stuff

A great loss to the world of comedy....Mel Smith, Dave Allen, Spike Milligan...yet Victoria Wood is in fine health.
If there is a god he has a funny sense of humour.

RIP Mel

I remember watching Alas Smith & Jones just before getting in bed when I was at primary school.

Sure I saw somewhere that Matt Lucas and David Walliams used Mel as a base for the character Andy in the wheelchair.

I never really understood the comedy back when I was a kid, but remember him and Grif looking at each other in the dark.

Lots of funny memories from my teens watching this guy. Genuine comedy genius, a much over-used term these days but not in this case.

RIP Mel and thanks for the laughs.
